These two lovebirds have been together for nine lovely years. Ash proposed to Kirby at the local dog park (AMAZING) before they headed off for a lush lunch and a home-cooked dinner with their nearest and dearest. With a hefty two and a half year engagement, the couple and their families were able to fit quite a bit of DIY fun in. Hosting their big day at Commonfolk, a coffee roaster in the Mornington Peninsula, this wedding offers up some seriously cool urban wedding inspo. Photographer Christian Marc (who’s recently rebranded as Be Here Be Now Photography) was there to capture all the details, so do take a scroll…

THE VENUE “We both wanted a venue that spoke for itself. Ash mentioned how great Commonfolk would be for a wedding. He got straight on to them and as soon as they said they were able to do functions we both knew it was perfect. Not only was the venue the exact style we were wanting but as coffee lovers, it was a perfect match.”

THE VIBE “We didn’t really have a particular theme in mind, we just wanted to have a great time with our family and friends. Neither of us wanted to be stressing over lots of decorations or little things. Christian and Shani, our photographers, suggested we just fill the day with things we love and that became the motivation behind all our decisions.”

FAVOURITE DETAILS “I absolutely loved my dress, Heather [Bridal Couture] did an amazing job of making it fit perfectly and it also showed up my sandals which I had so much fun making. Also our cake! Nirranda, from Buttercream Mumma, made the same cake earlier in the year for my birthday and I was pretty devastated all the guests loved it as much as we did because there were no leftovers to enjoy the next day. The way Commonfolk set up the venue was a huge take away for me and the locations for our photos that perfectly match everything we were hoping for.”

DIY... “Yes, lots! I arranged the flowers using fake flowers I bought online, added the tassels to my shoes and wrote our bar sign on a mirror picked up from Spotlight. My best friend helped us engrave our wooden signs, Matt and Andrew made our wedding arbour and my mum made our doughnut board.”

THE DRESS “I was looking on Still White and came across the One Day Bridal gown. It was out on the other side of the city. On my way to have coffee with a friend I popped in, tried it on and that was it. I took it home that afternoon and then got in touch with Heather to make some adjustments. Not knowing much about dresses I thought it just needed to be taken in but she worked her magic seeing things I hadn’t even noticed before and made it even more perfect for the day. The whole process was so easy and it was the only dress I tried on. I loved the fact that you would be able to see my shoes poking through the lace at the bottom.”

FAVOURITE MOMENT “Defitnley the photos [by Be Here Be Now]. Initially, we were worried about FOMO leaving a room full of our favourite people, but Christian and Shani were so fun and it was just like hanging out with friends and having a laugh. Getting back to the ceremony and walking in through a tunnel of our friends was also amazing and a total shock as I wasn’t pre-warned about this. Also, our pup Cooper stretching out in front of us as we did the ceremony was a pretty funny moment.”
