We can’t help but love a bride and groom with a great sense of humour. Take Kayla and Ben, for example, whose cheeky interpretation on marriage is pretty hilarious. Ben jokes, “marriage to me means coming home to the wife in her underwear handing me a XXXX Gold as I walk through the door after work. Followed by dinner brought to me in the lounge room while I watch Million Dollar Hot Seat (still in her underwear). Oh yeah, there is also being able to spend the rest of my life with my best friend. Hanging out, drinking beers and making babies. What more could you want in life?” (These guys were first featured in our issue 18 of Hello May).
Clearly a couple who doesn’t take things too seriously, it’s no wonder that Kayla and Ben opted for an easy-breezy nuptials at Maleny Retreat on the beautiful Sunshine Coast. “We didn’t really have a set-in-mind inspiration of how we wanted our wedding to look. We definitely just wanted it to be a good vibe for our guests as it was going to be (and was!) one big party,” says Kayla, whose dreamy bridal gown took things to a whole ‘nother level.
“It didn’t take me very long to find my dress. In fact, I had it picked out before I was even engaged! The Nala gown is me to a T. Nontraditional, sassy yet elegant and different. The overall experience was a piece of cake – One Day Bridal was my only stop and Nala was the one. Every thread, bead and lace in place was perfect.”
With a pretty amazing team of vendors behind them (like the legendary Janneke Storm, for instance), there’s no doubt that Kayla and Ben’s celebration was a success. “To be honest, we couldn’t be more grateful for all of our vendors as our day was incredible and we both have never felt more loved and looked after. Janneke is crazy good at what she does and the comfortability she gives couples is unbelievable. We cannot praiser her vibe, attitude and work more,” says the bride, who didn’t think twice when asked to name her favourite memory from the day.
“There was this moment after the ceremony had just finished and we walked past all of our family and friends – Ben and I embraced for a ‘WOW, WE ARE MARRIED’ moment and our bridal party met us and we all just started cheering and jumping up and down while our guests just watched on. It wasn’t planned, it was just a moment of pure delight for everyone and it was So. Damn. Good.”
