These two met during a work stint at Freedom Furniture of all places, while they were uni students. “I was working on the shop floor, and Dom was working in the warehouse. I was always happy to check if anything was out the back so I could talk to him and he’d help me carry it out so he could walk with me too.” It all came full circle when they “partied at our wedding in a warehouse,” adds the bride. And there, involved in it all, was not one, but five of our HM directory vendors, It’s Beautiful Here on photos, Miss Ladybird Cakes, a gorgeous gown by Rue De Seine from The Bridal Atelier and the fun-loving guys from Heartbreak Hotel Photo Booth…

THE VENUE “We wanted to honour our families, so we decided to get married in the Chapel of The Holy Spirit at Melbourne University. The Chapel is a stunning gothic-styled Catholic Church and is a hauntingly gorgeous space. There is ethereal beauty in all of the details of the design. We were also drawn to the idea that we could create and personalise a space that reflected us, which is why we chose to have our reception at the Kensington Collective. The drama of the sawtooth ceilings and industrial aesthetic really spoke to us.”

THE THEME “Dark, wild and romantic. All we wanted to do was to create a happy, warm and love-filled day that we could have fun, eat, drink, and dance with our closest people. We did a bit of everything. We tried to minimise the in-between time for our guests, so we started canapés and drinks at 5pm. We then had a sit-down, banquet-style dinner so that everyone could choose what they felt like eating and could pass around to each other like one big family dinner. We didn’t have a bridal table either- we wanted our bridal party to sit with their partners. We also had roving dessert canapés which were awesome because everyone got something sweet while on the dance floor!”

FAVOURITE DETAILS “Hilary from Billie Jean Botanicals was incredible in executing our floral vision while still making it feel modern and elegant with an edge. She sourced the most beautiful rich colour palette and the floral installations and tables were full of blooms and foliage.”

THE DRESS “I always and only wanted to try on wedding dresses with my sister and my mum there. After seventeen hours of travelling with her husband and their two young daughters, my sister stepped off the plane and into my last appointment. I always knew I wanted a lace dress with long sleeves with a train. The dress was by Rue De Seine (from The Bridal Atelier) and had an all over cornelli lace on a sheer nude mesh with ivory slip worn underneath. I also wore a long veil with a blusher. I loved the idea of having classic silhouette with a beautifully romantic, feminine edge.”

A WORD OF ADVICE “Don’t leave things until the last week and try to book everything as soon as possible. And have fun during the process!”

STANDOUT VENDORS “Father Bob was so flexible and open with us. He also gave us so much advice and supported us in doing what we wanted. He had everyone at the ceremony in stitches keeping it fun and light hearted! Our photographers, Kat and Scout from It’s Beautiful Here are so talented, so much fun and so passionate about their work. Our videographer, Nathan Kaso Weddings also completely understood us and made a video that perfectly captured us! They all have the most incredible eyes and caught honest, genuine, raw emotion and moments that make us feel happy.”
