When we see Wanaka weddings in the very pretty and picturesque New Zealand, they’re usually all about the lake. Which is incredible, of course, but also why we we were pleasantly surprised when this caring couple- a paramedic and a registered nurse- submitted their refreshing take- all about the country vibes! THE VENUE “Criffel Station was the first and only venue we looked at, we fell in love with the place straight away. The ceremony spot is stunning and overlooks the mountains of Wanaka, the woolshed is only a short stroll away for the reception and there are unlimited picturesque places for epic wedding photos, as well as on site accommodation! This definitely makes it easy and convenient for everyone.”

THE VIBE “We absolutely love the relaxed, rustic theme of Criffel Station, combined with the beautiful colours of autumn. Our wedding day looked just like the way we like to decorate our house and dress, and we really wanted it to reflect our own style.”

FAVOURITE DETAILS “Our cake by Peppermint Kitchen was AMAZING and we loved the mulled wine from Frankie The Nomad, it was such a perfect touch to the freezing cold day that we had!”

THE DRESS “Initially it was stressful-there is a lot of pressure to find THE dress. I looked in a couple of shops and found one I thought I liked, and when I showed my mum, the look on her face said it all and I was back to the drawing board! Time was running out, but then my maid of honor took me into Rue De Seine, and I felt spoiled for choice! The stylist there was so friendly and helpful and I found the beautiful Aria Violet dress which went so perfectly with our wedding style.”

LITTLE LOL “The morning of the wedding was the most perfect sunny autumn day, blue skies and almost t-shirt weather. During the ceremony you could see this big black cloud roll in. Luckily the ceremony was dry, but just as we were starting to take the family photos, it started raining. Not just any rain either- sideways rain! We tried to take some photos which ended up with our umbrella turning inside out and us getting soaked. So we gave up and our photographer had the idea that we should go to the National Toy & Transport Museum, which sounded slightly ridiculous at the time, but resulted in great photos!”

A WORD OF ADVICE “Definitely have a rainy day plan, and plan your timeline out well beforehand. The one thing that got us stressed was pressure for time.”

STANDOUT VENDORS “We can’t rave enough about our photographer, Charlotte Kiri Photography. She really did save the day and the mood when the weather threatened to ruin it! The wedding is over so quickly, but the photos last forever! Also Francesca’s pizza was so delicious and catered for everyone’s diets easily- they served dinner seamlessly and no one went hungry. Frankie The Nomad also went above and beyond making drinks, keeping the place tidy and staying until the very end to lock up.”
