These lovebirds look familiar? You might recall Gen and Lawson as our gorgeous issue 40 cover-couple. Today, we re-visit their nuptials because, honestly, we STILL can’t get enough.
This bride (wearing a mini lovingly made by her friend) and groom (in M.J. Bale) got hitched in the front garden of their West Perth home. Following these intimate ‘I do’s, the revelry continued at 3six5 Event Space—a night featuring fireball shots, late-night Maccas and plenty of entertainment.
As far as themes go, Gen had seen her fair share—being a florist herself and all. So, spoilt for choice, picking a vibe wasn’t easy. “Once I decided I wanted to go bold, well…we went BOLD,” The bride shares. “With the help from Jess (Bertie Does), Kate and Georgia (my two business partners at Sir Botanical), we came up with the most delicious bright red wedding, and boy, was it a goody.”
Below, feast on scrumptious snaps captured by Keeper Creative, get the deets on Gen’s dress, and discover how the couple chose to detour from tradition.
A Blank Canvas Venue
“As I work in the industry, we found it quite hard to land on a venue due to myself working at these venues most weekends – so I found it hard to envisage our own wedding. All I could imagine was our past work! We chose 3six5 Event Space as we wanted a blank space, where we could bring in our own furniture and create a whole new look within the venue. The building was the perfect mix of boutique/industrial warehouse that was ideal for our look. I had only set an event at 3six5 once before, so the venue had a new feeling to it which I loved.”
The Bride’s Custom-Made Mini Dress
“My dress was made by my beautiful friend Erin Mirnevini, which made it that much more special! I had always envisaged a short/mini dress for my wedding, Erin created that and much more! The dress is a mix of lots of different styles that I love, which we then encapsulated to make my perfect dress. Puffy sleeves, hidden pockets, shimmering fabric for when the party began and even the thoughtful detail by Erin for my something blue of L+G hand stitched in blue hidden on the inside of my dress against my heart. It was all beyond perfect and SO comfortable.”
Wedding Highlights: Fireball Shots, Late-Night Maccas & More
“It’s so hard to choose our favourite details from our day, it was jam-packed with entertainment, colour and of course our nearest and dearest. But our top highlights would have to be Mark Turner, the saxophonist, sneaking onto the dancefloor playing ‘Fireball’ by Pitbull whilst the waitstaff brought out trays of fireball shots. Mcdonalds cheeseburgers being delivered at 11pm for a late night snack (always a must). But the most special moment would have to be getting married in the beautiful front garden of our home in Dalkeith, once my grandmother’s home, who spent countless hours (if not days, months, years) on the beautiful garden. We invited our whole bridal/groom party to get ready together, which created such a relaxed atmosphere which we loved. We also had a private ceremony with our bridal party and immediate family, to spend time with all of them before we jetted off to our reception party at 3six5 Event Space.”
Detouring From Tradition
“We are glad that we made our wedding day our own. We broke tradition by reading our vows to each other when we woke the morning of our wedding, bridal/groom party [got] ready together, having a private ceremony at our house with immediate family and bridal/groom party, arriving at the reception as our guests were arriving and not having a major entrance and inviting all of our guests for a joint first dance rather than dancing in front of everyone. All of these things made us so much more comfortable on the day and created such a nice low key vibe which everyone really enjoyed.”
