Colourful, creative and completely them – Erin and Josh’s Melbourne wedding was a joyful celebration of love, adventure and all the little things that make life sweet (including ice cream). And one of the very best Victorian wedding photographers, Elsa Campbell, was there to take the prettiest piccies of the pair and their gorg pooch.
From custom-designed stationery by a favourite NT artist to stunning wedding florals from Piper + Posie, a dancefloor that absolutely went off thanks to a live band and a wild Hora, every part of the day reflected Erin and Josh’s story. Read on to see how they brought their vision to life…
WEDDING DAY INSPIRATION
“We wanted the theme of our day to pull together all the things that give us joy: bright colours, food, art, gin and tonic, ice cream, exploring Country and our adventuring partner-in-crime Peggy the Prado. We worked with one of our favourite artists Katie Hagebols (aka PiperKidd ) from our time in the Northern Territory to design the invitations and stationary for the day, and built the theme from there. Our brief to Katie included, “bright funky natives”, from which we built the day full of bright oranges, purples and reds. This flowed to our invites, table decorations, flowers and roof hangings from the amazing (reusable) Bangin Hangins.”
WEDDING ENTERTAINMENT
“First, our one splurge was on our wedding band, Like This Entertainment. We love a good boogie and really wanted to spend the night with our favourite people on the dance floor. Thanks to Like This, the energy level was HIGH all night and they helped us achieve our dreamiest, sweatiest, craziest Horas dance (a crazy circle dance traditionally done at Jewish weddings) we had ever seen. We still smile thinking about it. Ice-cream is incredibly important to us. So the wedding wouldn’t have been complete without our favourite ice-cream from Spring Street Grocer, which the venue served from an ice-cream cart in lieu of individual desserts or a cake.”
BRIDAL GOWN SHOPPING IN SYDNEY
“Initially I did not want a white dress, instead picturing an outrageous hot pink number for myself. The more I looked, I never really found the one. After trying on wedding dresses in Melbourne and really not vibing it, my partner encouraged me to jump on a plane to NSW to go to L’eto Bridal, with a particular dress I had screenshotted many times over the years. The second I put the dress on, I absolutely loved it and I just felt like a glam version of myself. Anya (the owner/designer at L’eto), was so genuine and passionate about accomodating her designs to suit you as a person. I loved being able to support this amazing small business.”
WELCOME TO COUNTRY
“We felt so fortunate to open our ceremony with a beautiful Welcome to Country by Wurundjeri man Daniel Ross. Some of our most cherished moments together have been spent exploring Country while living in WA, the NT and now in Victoria. For us, a Welcome to Country was an incredibly special way to open our ceremony and acknowledge Country, all done in the beautiful dappled sunlight of the oak tree sitting on the banks of the Birrarung.”
STANDOUT VENDOR
“Elsa Campbell our photographer made us feel so special. Her easy-going nature made us feel so relaxed, as neither of us feel comfortable in front of a camera. Her stunning use of light and humour in her photos shone through. We cherish her photos immensely.”
