Another couple keen to have a small wedding regardless of COVID getting in the way, Emily and Jesse, got hitched after six years and a proposal that consisted of “shaky hands, a crappy cheese board and a poem of love.” Sounds right up our alley! They describe the weather on the day as “insane” and actually had portrait pics a few weeks later because it simply wasn’t possible. You’ll find those below their big day, as well as all the deets, like Emily’s Grace Loves Lace two-piece gown, earrings and heels, Jesse’s suit and his dapper groomsmen decked out in M.J. Bale. Fox & Kin caught it all on camera, so scroll down for more, people.
LITTLE LOL “It wasn’t so funny at the time but we [now] laugh about how insane the weather was and how in denial we were about it. We got married on the first day of the major floods in the mid-North Coast. The weather was forecasted to rain but we were convinced the weather man was wrong and the sun would shine through. We organised a last-minute marquee two days before but it wasn’t really until Emily walked down the aisle in the rain that we thought ‘yep we are really doing this in the rain.’”
THE THEME “We took a lot of inspiration from our recent trip to Mexico and wanted to incorporate that vibe throughout the day. We envisioned a relaxed style out on the lawn with big rugs, low picnic tables and an endless supply of margaritas and guacamole. We fell in love with CASA MIO Surf Hacienda via Airbnb. The overall vibe we wanted to create was based around our values of sustainability, connectedness and being present.”
THE DRESS “The dress was a two-piece gown from Grace Loves Lace. I left this very very important part of the day until six weeks before the wedding. Classic me. However, the online stylists were beyond amazing. They helped with how to measure for sizing, sent studio photos of staff wearing the gown so I could see how it fitted on different body types and even called me via telephone to discuss further detailing. The gown arrived just in time for the wedding and it was absolutely perfect.”
MEMORABLE MOMENT “Our favourite moment was in the afternoon, a little bit of sun peaked through the rain clouds momentarily and Nic, our photographer of Fox & Kin quickly grabbed us for a dance under the festoon lights. It was just one quiet moment in a crazy day where it felt like the whole world stopped and we were the only two people there. It was honestly breathtaking and a moment we will never forget.”
WE’RE GLAD WE… “On the day of our wedding, we didn’t go to our favourite beach location for portrait photos because of the rain. So two weeks later we got all dressed up again and Nic travelled back down to Crescent Head for a beautiful sunset afternoon on Race Course beach. We popped champagne, had a picnic and laughed at the few people who walked past and congratulated us on our wedding day commenting on the perfect weather we were lucky to have. The photos turned out stunning and it gave us another nice afternoon to reflect on our wedding day and our first two weeks of marriage.”
STANDOUT VENDORS “Hands down our photographer, Fox & Kin. She was a woman of all trades that day. From calming nervous energy pre-ceremony, to making sure the day ran smoothly and on time, to working around the pouring down rain and coming up with genius wet weather plans. She kept the spirits high all day and she was so easy to get along with it felt like she was one of our good friends. Nic was a huge standout, she is amazing at what she does and the photos turned out absolutely stunning. [Also], our caterer Matt from Paddock to Plate Catering Co. He put on the most amazing vegan spread, sourced all the produce from local farmers in and around Crescent Head who he met at our venue the day before the wedding to drop off fresh produce straight from their farms. We are huge foodies/cooks and appreciate all things local and sustainable, we could not have had anyone more suitable than Matt.”
