There’s a lot to love about Ellaina and Lach’s day – beautiful bouquets by Petal and Pie, glossy cars by London Cabs Company and moody images by Daniel Ferris. What made our hearts skip a beat however (as silly as it may sound) was Ellaina and Lach’s obvious love for each other. While unapologetic about wanting nice things, it was the people who were there that mattered most.
“We were truly blown away by people’s excitement for our engagement and wedding”, says Ellaina whose day began in the most unexpected way. “I did get the surprise of my life when I walked outside my house and saw that Lach had secretly hired London Cabs for transport to the wedding. It was much better than my Dad’s Commodore Holden and I truly felt spoilt.”
By far one of the most sentimental gifts she received however, was her Grandmother’s wedding dress, which set the tone for their vintage inspired day. “My grandmother was unable to attend our wedding, so it was incredibly special to wear her 60 something year old handmade lace dress. It needed lots of holes covered, extra lace added, and the rust colour removed. Amazingly we found some lace that matched closely (we bought the only two remaining metres left in the store!!) and my mother worked tirelessly hand washing the dress with soap flakes. I cannot thank my mum enough for her willingness to allow me to alter the dress to fit me and make it stay on (I was very nervous about it falling apart given how delicate it was!)”
Her antique dress added to the old world glamour of their day held at The Grounds of Alexandria, a stunning spot not far from her family home. “Ellaina was moving to the Northern Beaches and so it was wonderful to have the ceremony and reception in some of the best places the Inner West has to offer”, says Lach. “Having our reception at The Grounds allowed us to do just that! We were able to have a wedding in a garden and in the city at the same time! The antiques dress, London Cabs, old church building, combined with photos in the graffitied streets of Newtown and the beach front of Dee Why created a contrast of worlds that really capture the vast array of things that we love.”
