Jiaxin, a dancer, and Da, a lawyer, decided that when it came time to celebrate their decade of lovin’, shining a light on their love of classical everything was essential. We’re talking Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra, courtesy of Event Entertainers, and Upside Down Event’s considered renaissance styling. Sublime, eh? We are also loving hard on their intimate six guest reception. With Eric of In A Maze behind the lens, we are keen to share each and every detail. Scroll down for the goods…

THE VENUE “Da and I wanted our wedding to be unique. We didn’t just want the typical church wedding and hotel reception, we wanted something classic, rich in culture but still very relaxed. So we got in touch with Lilac from Upside Down Events who knew just the place for us and shared some photos of the venue which looked amazing. We trusted her completely and pretty much booked straight away while we were still in Beijing. We only saw Deux Belettes once we arrived for our wedding and couldn’t have been more impressed by how gorgeous the whole place was!”

THE VIBE “Da and I have a thing for classical architecture (not that we know too much about it) but we just love how romantic, elegant and otherworldly it all looks! We got in touch with our old high school friend Jeffrey, the co-founder of In A Maze, who took some amazing pre-wedding photos for us in Beijing to get his thoughts on what might work. He suggested to try recreating some renaissance-themed looks and we slowly built on that to create a modern take on classical romance.”

FAVOURITE DETAILS “Styling was completely on point! Lilac and her team did an amazing job of making sure all the elements were complementary without things being too subtle or too overwhelming. The decorations and props looked right at home at Deux Belettes and the place looked amazing from sunrise to sunset. One of the most memorable moments of the wedding was being able to dance with Da and our parents in the open courtyard. Dancing under the stars was surreal and something I had always dreamed of as a girl. To do so for my wedding was just perfect!”

FAVOURITE MOMENT “Just after the ceremony, while we were signing our marriage certificate, I saw tears welling up in Da’s eyes. It made me very emotional and I started crying. Before you knew it our parents had started crying too. And there we were, a whole group of us, just blubbering away.”

STANDOUT VENDORSIn A Maze and Upside Down Events were just amazing, not only at their own jobs but at how well they communicated with each other. It just goes to show how effective vendors who have a good working relationship are! Everyone else they recommended was just great!”
