Carlie and Scott’s retro, playful, 1940s-infused wedding had us grinning ear-to-ear. These cool cats told us that initially they were “rather impartial” to getting married but believe it has ultimately made their bond stronger, adding that “referring to each other as husband or wife is still a thrill.”

Well, selfishly, we’re bloody thrilled too, because now we get to gaze lovingly at the resulting epic pics, taken by Kyra Boyer, a specialist in “joy-filled photography for cruise-y colourful couples”. As you’ll see below, Carlie and Scott’s day was brimming with meaningful contributions from loved ones. A buzzing dance floor was a must, and Melbourne Entertainment Company made it happen. While Ladybird Cakes’s salted caramel masterpiece with raspberries and vintage icing will live rent-free in our minds (and on our Pinterest boards) for all of time. Get around all this goodness and more below…

THE VIBE “Food, flowers, and a dance floor were important to us. We wanted it to be more of a cocktail party than a traditional wedding. We really feel like we were able to achieve that.”

FAVE DETAILS “I have, for the longest time, wanted a vintage lace cake, and Ladybird pulled it off perfectly.

DIY “Friends and family helped us with the invites. And some close friends made the ‘welcome’ sign, which now hangs proudly near our front door. It’s really meaningful to have friends and family involved, as it can help alleviate some of the pressure of organising a wedding. It’s also nice to look at those often overlooked things and feel a personal connection to those who helped create them.”

THE DRESS “I tried on quite a few non-traditional, retro wedding dresses and was quite keen on a floral design. I was strolling through Myer one day and unexpectedly found my dress. I then slightly embellished it by adding sparkly flowers to the lapels.”

TALK ABOUT TRADITION “Scott’s mum, Annette, passed away from ovarian cancer in December 2023, so it was very important to us that she was present in photographs and verbal acknowledgements throughout the night. It was important that her name was spoken. We know she was there with us.”

THE TUNES “Carlie walked down the aisle to ‘Mint Car’ by The Cure. Our first dance was Roy Orbison’s ‘You Got It’ – Roy was one artist who seemed to come up quite frequently when we were first dating, so he was a great fit. ‘You & Me’ by Penny & The Quarters was our signing song. It’s such a sweet, romantic tune.”
