To celebrate their official union, Bec and James hosted “a big dinner party” with 40 of their closest friends and family, saying without any regrets, “we had a chance to speak and dance with everyone while still eating all courses of our meals and having a few champagnes, too. Our guests felt special and we felt lucky to be able to give them our time, while still enjoying ourselves.” Add a “killer Spotify playlist” with song requests via RSVP cards and lens woman, Elsa Campbell to catch it all on camera and you’ve got a darn good wedding on your hands. THE VENUE “We saw three venues before we decided on Glasshaus Inside. We wanted somewhere that gave us the feeling of being outside, while being totally protected from the elements. Who says you can’t have a lush green wedding indoors? Considering Melbourne’s unpredictable weather we wanted to be sure that we were ready for anything and we’re glad we did, because we had one of the worst storms on record.”

FAVOURITE DETAIL “Glitter! Everywhere Bec went there was a trail of gold shimmer that followed from her dress. By the end of the night everyone had a little extra sparkle to them. Also, the rain, surprisingly. The sound of the rain on the roof during the ceremony added a hum to the room, it was quite beautiful to hear.”

DIY “Bec designed all of the invites, signs, placecards and menus, but apart from that there wasn’t too much DIY.  We did source photographs from our parents and grandparents of their weddings and displayed them on on the gift table in perspex frames.”

THE DRESS “I found my dress on Net-A-Porter. I actually purchased a different dress, but I kept going back to check on the sparkly number. About six weeks before the wedding, I went back again and the dress was on sale and only my size was left in stock. It was meant to be.”

A WORD OF ADVICE “We’re really glad we kept things small. Do what feels right for you. Don’t want a bridal party? Don’t have one. Want to wear sparkles? Why not wear all of them! Asking for help is great, but ultimately your day should be an expression of what you want and who you are as a couple.”

STANDOUT VENDORS “We were so thrilled with Narelle of Three Rings Celebrancy, we felt so at ease with her. Our photographer, Elsa Campbell, who captured the feeling of the day beautifully. We love the candid shots. When we look at our photos we feel like we’re living it all again. Katie and Justin at Milkbar Events were phenomenal. They were so accommodating- everything was so well balanced and delicious. Mostly, we’re really glad we found Clare and Catherine from Will&Jac. They swooped in and helped us out with all of the details leading up to the wedding. Also on the day, they made sure that everything ran smoothly, that we all stayed dry and on time, also that we enjoyed our day completely and without worry. We honestly don’t know what we would have done without them.”
