Ashani could tell something was up when Erik asked her to meet him on the pier during a family holiday and showed up in a schmick button-down top. “I asked Ashani to go out to sit on the jetty, ran inside to get changed into something that looked more presentable for photos and ran back out. As soon as I got back, Ashani asked me why I was wearing a long-sleeved shirt out on the water in summer, so I quickly dropped to my knees and asked her to marry me!” And marry they did, in the most incredible ceremony and reception at The Calile Hotel (decked out in blooms by Kate Dawes Flower Design). THE VENUE “We saw about 6-7 venues. We developed rating criteria, rated each venue against the criteria and The Calile came up strong against any other venue.”
THE VIBE “A Mediterranean vibe is what we were going for – we wanted our honeymoon to be similar, but couldn’t because of Covid. At least we got the perfect wedding.”
FAVOURITE DETAILS “We loved the flower set-up [Kate Dawes Flower Design] and how it matched the vibe we were going for. The catering and staff at The Calile (not to mention their plate drops!) were perfection.”
FAVOURITE MOMENT “The speeches and our vows. They were all heartfelt and moving, and each delivered it to perfection on the day for something that can be pretty scary for some. Our vows to each other hold true to how we felt and were from the heart.”
A TOUCH OF TRADITION “Most of the wedding ceremony was Sri Lankan cultural but adapted so that the audience understood what was happening and could follow along. We are so thankful for our family’s friend Dr Aruni who kindly ran the cultural ceremony for us and explained all of the customs and traditions on the day.”
WE’RE GLAD WE “We are glad we spent more money on those things we will physically remember like photos and wearing nice clothes/dresses, as well as having our families do speeches.”
