There’s nothing like a good proposal story and for us, this one takes the cake. Not only does it involve Paris, the city of love but two of our all time favourite photographers, Milton Gan of Milton Gan Photography and Dan O’Day of Dan O’Day Photography. After crossing paths at an industry event and learning that they’d both be in Europe at the same time, Milton, who was planning to propose to his one true love, Amy asked if Dan would mind hanging around to capture all the action.
£The plan was simple: We’d rendezvous in Paris, we’d walk about till the sun was right about to go down, and then Milton would drop to one knee and pop the question. I’d look down, check my lens cap was off, and then nab their fleeting moment, explains Dan – a man widely known within the wedding world for his incredibly candid and artistic images (of which you can see more of here as well as in issue eight of Hello May, on sale now and stocked in newsagents nationally).
The proposal however, didn’t go ahead. Their taxi got lost (as taxis often do) and by the time they’d arrived at their destination the lovely light they were hoping to capture had disappeared. Day two arrived and after a glorious day wandering around the city again it had grown dark.
“Light was lost again, but it didn’t matter so much this time, as Milton spotted the light pole that would illuminate the perfect stage for what was about to happen next?” Having clearly taken notes over the years working as a wedding photographer, Milton finally got down on one knee and asked Amy to be his lady friend for life. “I actually got man tears”, admits Dan.
It’s the kind of reaction Milton often receives when people see his work. Just like his proposal to Amy his approach is authentic, unobtrusive and infused with passion. Having been with Hello May since day one, we’re no doubt one of his biggest fans – but don’t just take our word for it. Check out more of his work here and here.
