After a seven year engagement, Amanda and Rhys decided to tie the knot, finally! “We had planned to get married in 2010 but we had a surprise baby girl. Then had another little girl 14 months after that (the best surprises of course!). Everything was put on hold to start a new business and enjoy being new parents.”
Looking back at their engagement Amanda recalls they were holidaying in Byron bay the pair stopped off at Fingal Point before heading home to Brisbane. As the location of one of their first dates, Amanda thought it was a little odd when Rhys insisted they take a walk up to the lighthouse. “We were sitting on the rocks trying to decide what we felt like for dinner whe his hands started shaking and he got down on one knee…It took me a minute to understand what he was doing. I just cried like a baby and said YES!”
Opting for an elopement, the pair wed at the Villa Rustica in scenic Byron Bay, Amanda adding that the theme of their day was eclectic, “We really just wanted to combine all of our favourite things and we wanted our wedding day to stay timeless and romantic so we tended to gravitate toward texture rather than any specific style.”
Their day was captured by talented duo Anthony and Kim from Lover of Mine.
Their wedding was an intimate one, with the couple meeting most of their vendors beforehand over tea and scones, or pizza and a drink to talk about the details of their day. As a photographer in the industry, Amanda had the oppertunity to work with Cat from Woods & Bloom and Elizabeth Crossley in the past, adding that the florest and makeup artist’s work were some of her favourites from the day. “Because our day was so intimate I don’t think we could think of anyone we would rather have had there.”
When we asked what advice they would give to other couples planning a wedding, they had this to say…”Not once did we wish we had gone into a big wedding. On another note, wanting a big wedding isn’t wrong either! Essentially our advice is -don’t let anyone make you feel guilty for wanting whatever it is your heart wants.”
