On a trip to the Margaret river for Amanda’s birthday, the couple spent one morning horse riding through the bush-that is until they came across a table laid out with a platter of local goods (wine included, naturally). The still unsuspecting Amanda enjoyed the food whilst Cam suggested that instead of celebrating another year together, why not celebrate an engagement? “I thought he was joking at first until he pulled a ring from his pocket! I was literally speechless. We spent the rest of the afternoon touring the wineries and breweries.”
The pair spent their short engagement planning a desert-meets-bohemian themed wedding, with thoughts of making the festivities truely authentic with a trip to Mexico. However during a Pinterest trawl, Amanda discovered Cactus Country, located in Victoria. “We got in touch with owners Jim and Julie Hall and to our surprise they had yet to host a wedding there and were more then happy for us to be their first. 10 acres of cactus bliss!”
Amanda and Cam’s wedding is the perfect example of what to do when the weather turns sour. Seven days out from the big day, they realised that despite the current bone dry conditions, their day was the only one in the week that forecast a 95% of rain. “We had the ultimatum of deciding on a rainy wedding in the desert or risk rescheduling to next day (sunny and 27) with the possibility our vendors weren’t able to do it.” In the end they stuck with their day, hired a marquee from Bourke Hire, and it were as though it had always been planned that way all along!
Lucy and Al from She Takes Pictures He Makes Films were there to capture the day via photo an film (just check out that epic vid and soundtrack below), and we’d have to agree that the outcome looks incredible. With the dramatic backdrop of a stormy sky and a forest of cacti, Amanda and Cam couldn’t be more pleased with the photography.
Along with their theme ideas, the couple were determined to ensure no guest left hungry, they embarked on a seven course gourmet degustation. Cam mentioned, “We got a lot of laughter and nervous smiles from some bulging bellies at diner after the 5th course when we announced there was still 2 more courses to go!” He added that the cake wasn’t even touched until lunch the next day!
