Both teachers, this ultra-prepared couple thought of everything- even a personalised Snapchat filter. Seriously. They also threw their dream wedding a few days out from Christmas- “hoping most people would be finished with work for the year and ready to have a happy night celebrating,” says the bride. And by the looks of Dan Evans’ photos (with the help of one of our fave bands, The White Tree), it sure looks like they were! So scroll down for a list of all the fab vendors and fun ideas that made this wedding a winner.

THE VENUE We fell in love with The Farm Yarra Valley based on their organic farm-to-table concept, and their passion for food and wine with local suppliers. We stumbled across The Church of Bang Bang Boogaloo and really enjoyed the contrast between the Melbourne laneways and graffiti art and the historical nature of our chapel, with the refreshing country and laid-back vibes of The Farm.

FAVOURITE DETAILS We made personalised favours – a ‘Tom & Al’ CD of our favourite songs from the wedding, and test tubes (I’m a senior chemistry teacher) filled with homemade rose, green and chai teas, as Tom is a known whizz in the kitchen. Also, the church allowed us to have confetti in the laneway following our exit from the ceremony and these are some of our favourite photographs.

THE DRESS My mother, sister & myself ended up booking a girls weekend away in QLD so that we could visit the Gold Coast Grace Loves Lace showroom. The staff members were so helpful, and it was a really special weekend.

REFERENCES I came across Hello May and never looked back. One of my bridesmaids and I also attended a One Fine Day Wedding Fair in Melbourne which is where I came across the Samba Kombi Services vans for the transfer between our two venues on the day.

MARRIAGE MEANS… As much as marriage is about saying ‘I join my life to your joy, your spark, your most beautiful inescapable spirit that I am so absolutely infatuated with,’ it is also a true and real connection with our innate brokenness and loss. It is saying ‘I am willing to put up with all your mess, mistakes and your hurts.’

A WORD OF ADVICE Remember why you are organising such a cool party, and hold hands and steal kisses whenever you can. Try to eat some of the delicious food on offer! And book somewhere luxurious with a full bath for the night of the wedding! We stayed at a gorgeous cottage in Kalorama and it was just beautiful to enjoy the next slow morning together before Christmas began. I wish I hadn’t spent weeks of my life hunting for four perfect floral bridesmaid dresses online. I wish I had asked someone to play songs off my Spotify list between band sets (no one noticed but I kinda did). And we both wish we had time to write our speech earlier.

STANDOUT VENDORS Our wonderful photographer Dan Evans is the absolute best- a genius! We are still so astounded with the gorgeous shots of our love that was captured on the day. Kurt and Tiff (so cool) from The Barefoot Bride wedding films and Anthea from The Farm were super-chilled, relaxed and incredibly professional. Also Jourdie from Rubi Hair is definitely one of a kind and just gets what I like. And the gentlemen from Samba Kombi Services were also lovely.
