We thought we’d wrap up the last week of 2017 with a bit of a ‘Best Of’ series. We kicked things off with the most popular (according to your clicks, likes and comments through out the year) bouquets and then gowns and today we’re all about the dessert baby!

And don’t worry, we get it, we know you’re probably several mouthfuls deep in that left over Christmas roast, or quietly digging in to another slice of that delightful pavlova from Boxing Day; but we’ve got work to do! Planning a wedding is no doubt a major feat, so, why not take this holiday season as a time to get organised…or, at the very least, have a squiz at our top ten cakes of 2017!

Definitely the most scrumptious, mouth watering part of our ‘Best Of 2017’ series, the fabulous cakes of Hello May have us all reaching for that afternoon sweet treat (which is falling short in comparison to these tasty works of art)!

Check out these gorgeous Pinterest worthy desserts from the past 12 months, and feel inspired by these mad skills from some of the industry’s top cake makers!

JILL + JAY
These two love birds were rewarded with a delicious three tier sponge cake (complete with cream cheese icing between the layers) after surviving their portrait session in the rain! Made by a couple of their mates it was topped with native flowers. Click here to check out more of their beautiful day with photos by Alex Marks Photography.

MEL + SIMON
These two are owners of Sydney styling, hire and sign writing outfit Ashdown and Bee so of course their wedding was always going to be nothing short of out of this world amazing. They employed the services of All Things Sweet by Carissa to create their semi naked cake. The flavour? White Chocolate and Lemon with White Chocolate Ganache. Photos by And A Day Photography.

TESSA + BILLY
These love birds had two cakes – because why not. Hiring Regnier Cakes to make their dessert dreams a reality they ended up with a vanilla and passionfruit sponge / chocolate hazelnut sponge in one and the other was cherry ripe mud and chocolate mud with popping candy filling. Yep. Sounds amazing right. Once you’ve wiped the drool from your chin be sure to click here to check out the rest of this super fun wedding with photos by Enchanted Weddings.

COURTNEY + KIERAN
Making appearance number two on this years top 10’s (they were featured here in our fave gowns of 2017 wrap up) these guys get bonus points for not only serving their guests a delicious black fondant (complete with gold flakes) cake by Baked Patisserie but also for backing it up with espresso martinis. This shindig was photographed by Sydney fave Gui Jorge Photography.

BEC + GLENN
The good folk over at Atomic Cakes and responsible for this three tiered naked carrot cake. Their unusual looking cake topper is actually a 3D printed custom figurine designed by the groom himself and modelled by a friend. This wedding was photographed by Melbourne lens lady I Got You Babe Weddings.

NATALIE + BEN
Now this is our kind of wedding cake. These three wheels of delicious looking cream cheese was put together by those geniuses from Say Cheese Towers and that snazzy looking timber cake topper was picked up on the cheap by the bride on Ebay. You can shop this design and many more here. Photographed by James Simmons (who also shot our issue 18 cover) this is one wedding you definitely want to see more of.

MARLI + DEEJAY
What’s better than a cake by The Margaret River Bakery? A whole table of cakes by these masters of flour, water and sugar. And not only did they bake three single tier cakes for Marli and Deejay’s day of good times they threw in some meringues for good measure. SELINA + NIC
We were stoked to see this one pop in the top ten results as it’s one of our personal favourites of the year. This Semi naked butterscotch mud cake filled with vanilla bean buttercream and salted caramel was created by Whipped Cake Co. But because they REALLY love their friends and family Selina and Nic also supplied their guests with Injectable Cronuts from Wine & Dine’m with flavours like Malibu & Coconut, Coffee and Vanilla & Berry making us start to drool again (and just when we’d cleaned ourselves up)! GEORGIE + BEN
This awesome cake was created by our Melbourne mates Sticky Fingers Bakery with other desserts being looked after by Bursaria Catering (also home to the stunning Abbotsford Convent where this blessed event took place). Photos by Madeline Druce.

DAN + SCOTT
Featured on the blog only earlier this month, Dan and Scotts cake was actually whipped up by their celebrant Alison Sakrewski – if that’s not going above and beyond for your couples we don’t know what is! This homemade two tiered delight was topped off with Marvel themed action heroes. Photos by Cloud Catcher Studio
