“We are creatures of heat and light,” says Black Finch Jewellery’s creative director and CEO Davina Adamson, and it’s this idea that sparks Everywhereness – the Australian jewellery brand’s latest collection. Inspired by stellar phenomena, geological heat and the mineral richness of our planet, the collection brings something impossibly vast down to human scale. Big ideas, very good jewellery.
“Kaleidoscopes of stars above burning hot, the molten core beneath our feet. We are creatures of heat and light. Hanging planets in the distance that rain diamonds to the rare entity that is our earth, jewellery is a celebration of our universe and its mineral magic,” says Davina. “Everywhereness explores the cosmic conditions that allow jewellery materials to exist. Gold and gemstones become traces of planetary history; materials shaped by pressure, time, and energy. Each piece reflects the idea that jewellery is not separate from the universe, but part of it: fragments of cosmic matter brought into human scale to be worn, held, and remembered.”
For the lovers, the dreamers, Everywhereness explores our connection to the materials we wear and where they come from. “It’s all about heat and light and all the materials pulled from the universe condensed into small human scale sculptural form,” says Davina. Her one-line description? “The mysteries of the universe condensed into luxe wearable art.” Yep. That’ll do nicely.
Rare sapphires and sculptural fine jewellery
The new Black Finch Jewellery collection features a seriously good selection of rare and exceptional gemstones, including a two-tone pink sapphire in a soft tapered baguette cut and a large lilac emerald-cut sapphire with incredible clarity. The kind of stones that really don’t need much introduction.
For the first time, Black Finch has also paired sapphires with baroque pearls, bringing together the natural irregularity of the pearl with the precision and colour of the gemstones. And we’re very into this particular combination. There are new finishes, delicate eye settings and clever new stone-setting techniques throughout the collection, adding fresh layers to the brand’s distinctive jewellery design language.
Then there’s the hero diamond piece, where baguette-cut diamonds flow down the side like tiny ribbons. Sculptural, a little unexpected and very, very Black Finch.
Jewellery shaped by experimentation
Everywhereness has been many months in the making, with Black Finch experimenting with new making techniques, clasps, finishes and manufacturing processes throughout the design and development of the collection. Because apparently you can’t just make a new jewellery collection without first inventing a few new ways to make jewellery. We love that for them.
The result is approximately 16–18 pieces that push the possibilities of Black Finch Jewellery while continuing to build the studio’s design lexicon. These experiments don’t simply live within this collection, either – new techniques and finishes become part of the broader Black Finch toolkit, opening up new possibilities for future custom and design work.
And perhaps that’s the loveliest thing about Everywhereness. Beneath all the spectacular stones and sculptural forms is a pretty beautiful idea: the materials we wear have existed long before us, shaped by forces far beyond our own scale. We simply get to give them another chapter.
