These two souls have been together for over a decade now and “met when we were both working at a mine in Zambia.” There was also a near death experience when Jacob proposed and thanks to the bushfires, a change of venue three days before the wedding, so to say their story is an interesting one is an understatement. Fast forward to the big day and Gemma and Jacob got married on their own private property with talented lens lady Blossom Daisy Creative on pics. THE PROPOSAL “Jake and I were on a winter trip to Tasmania and staying at a lodge near Cradle Mountain. We hiked to the top where Jake proposed. During the climb back down we had a near death experience. There was plenty of snow and we had to traverse across a steep slope that culminated in a sharp drop off a cliff. I lost my footing and started to slide headfirst down the face of the slope towards the cliff. Jake (who has the reflexes of a cat), managed to grab my ankle just in time and hoist me back up – crisis averted!”
LITTLE LOL “Not really a funny story per se, however, three days before the wedding we had to change venue due to bushfires. The location was not going to be an option due to extreme fire danger and a number of emergency evacuation notices being in place. Given the limited options and time left before the big day, we plumped for our own property. Given that the majority of our guests were flying in from New Zealand and the UK (with plenty en-route when the decision to change venue was made), we not only had to relocate the wedding, but our guests also had to relocate themselves by about 400km. A number of our suppliers were directly impacted by the bushfires, but still chose to come and provide their services. All of our guests relocated at the last minute. It really was a very humbling experience.”
FAVE DETAILS “The food – Frank Camorra and his team from MoVida provided such a delicious array of food for the day. The homemade sticky date wedding cake by our amazing neighbour and the music! Jojo Rainwater from Memphis provided the music before, during and after our ceremony. The evening’s entertainment was headed up by Nicky Bomba (Melbourne SKA orchestra and former member of the John Butler Trio) and six of his gang. We can’t really begin to describe how entertaining they were. At one point during the evening, Nicky was playing wine glasses.”
THE DRESS “The dress is a custom design from Chosen by One Day bridal. It was the second place I went to – we picked the various elements of the dresses that I liked, they then turned it into a creation for me. I was pleased to have such a straightforward and easy experience.”
A WORD OF ADVICE “Get a wedding planner – it was the best thing we ever did. Our lovely wedding planner, Kate, from Events By Kate found nearly all our vendors for us. We essentially put all the organisation in Kate’s hands. All of our wedding vendors went above and beyond, but in particular, Kate, who spent her New Year reorganising our big day.”
