AMELIA & DECLAN’S SYDNEY WEDDING

Having met at Oxford Art Factory nine years prior, these crafty souls were all about the little details come their big day. Declan, a social worker in training, and Amelia working in collection and exhibition management at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, kicked their creative streak off by thinking long and hard about their wedding day colour palette. We’re talking terracotta and white with pops of green and citrus. Absolutely delicious right? Nina Claire Photography made sure that each and every detail was captured from the bride’s ethereal Prea James Bridal veil to the handpicked floral confetti. Want more? Scroll down…

FAVOURITE DETAILS “It’s really hard to pick, as we put a lot of thought into each of the elements. Perhaps the flowers! Inzali from Poho and I worked together to come up with something unique that was both bright and modern, selecting each variety of flower and greenery. My mum, sister and I spent the morning-of adding freshly cut citrus, flameless wax candles and these beautiful little scrolls my Mum made, which featured lyrics from The Beatles, to the table arrangements.”

FAVOURITE MOMENTS “We couldn’t agree on this one! For Declan, it was when The Beatnix played “I’ve Just Seen A Face”, a Beatles song they’d learnt at his request. It wasn’t a song I’ve listened to much, but the lyrics match the story of how we met, so dancing and singing to it together, surrounded by all our guests, was really special. For me, it was our exit! The last dancefloor song of the night was “That’s Life” by Frank Sinatra, which I danced to with my Mum, Dad and sister. As the song ended, Declan came and took my hand and we hung back while the guests headed outside to form an aisle. The Beatnix came back and started to play “Hey Jude” as people filed out, and when it reached the “Na, na, na, na-na-na na” bit the band led us outside, playing the guitar and tambourine while the guests all sung and threw confetti. We hopped into our getaway car and drove off, it was such a surreal happy ending to the day.”

LITTLE LOL “Wedding crashers! After dinner, there was a bit of a miscommunication between Declan, a groomsman and his new girlfriend, leading to her and a friend getting dropped in an Uber at the venue. Once they arrived, they were horrified to see it was a full-blown wedding!”

A WORD OF ADVICE “Plan a day that is an extension of the two of you, how much you love each other and how much all the people you’ve invited mean to you. A lot of people might not like to be as hands-on as we were but even the smallest touches can make a big difference.”

WE’RE GLAD WE “In terms of photography, we opted against having lots of getting ready photos. Nina just shot a few beautiful images of the final preparations and instead used this time out of our package to capture the dancefloor and our exit. These are some of our favourite photos of the night!”

STANDOUT VENDORS “Nina, our photographer was just amazing. We had spoken on the phone a few times but hadn’t met in person before the day! Everything was just perfect though, the way she wrangled our BIG families and captured so many special moments, between not only us but our guests, really reflected the day we had planned – one which was just as much about our friends and family as it was about us! Also, Simon, our celebrant. We were prepared to go with the absolute basics for our ceremony but his ideas and questionnaire transformed it into something that was so intimate and sweet, yet still very simple and not sappy.”
