These guys are both in the wedding industry, Rachel, a wedding photographer and videographer and Toby, a musician. “We both now get to gig together as hubby and wife,” reveals the happy bride. They’ve been together for two years and tied the knot by the beach, the bride wearing a Karen Willis Holmes gown, both sporting Grew & Co rings. Folk + Follow captured the day on camera, so scroll down for all the details…
THE VENUE “It was always The Boathouse Shelly Beach for us. The Boathouse Group just get it right. When we first started dating we would spend many mid-week dates filled with salty kisses at the bower, which always ended in a bucket of prawns, french fries and champagne under the summer sun.”
THE VIBE “An Italian, coastal, romance. I am the hopeless romantic and love a good rom-com and old Hollywood glamour and both of us just love the Italian lifestyle as well as our very own in our backyard, Manly.”
FAVOURITE DETAILS “Flowers and champagne! I originally thought about doing my own flowers and then when I found The Make Haus, I knew they were for me. When they arrived on the day I cried, they were just so unusual and perfect – better than what I could have pictured. The Boathouse Shelly Beach did the venue flowers and are always just incredible. Their base style is very coastal but they found a way to bring in beautiful pinks and burgundies to add a romantic feel. Veuve Clicquot – is an absolute favourite of ours and when we are with our close friends and family we always enjoy a bottle together.”
THE DRESS “I couldn’t wait to find ‘the one’. The Sophie from Karen Willis Holmes was the third dress I tried on and ended up being it! This feeling came over me before I had even seen it in the mirror – it just felt like the perfect fit on my body. It was the cliche moment, where I didn’t want to take it off. I hit up a few more shops and felt like I was cheating on it, so Karen Willis Holmes got a call and it was yes to the Sophie dress for me.”
LITTLE LOL “Yes! We got locked in the storeroom with our wedding cake. How did this happen? By having a canapés wedding it was so hard to get to my husband on the other side of the room without being stopped for congratulations from family and friends that when I eventually did get to him I said, ‘babe, I just need a minute with you.’ The only place we could go where we could have a quiet moment alone was the storeroom. One of the staff handed us our cake just before that and then when we tried to get out it was locked from the other side. We both cracked up laughing and said oh well let’s just enjoy this for a minute, we had a kiss, hug and sat on drink crates for our cake!”
A WORD OF ADVICE “A must is videography, not every special day in life requires a film. Photos are fine, however, video is so accessible these days and I honestly do not know how everyone can plan $50k plus on a wedding and come out with photos. Reliving your vows and all the memories in motion with your hand-picked song is priceless. It goes so fast and having movement and audio is a game changer!”
WE WISH WE… “We loved everything, but one thing we were both really adamant about in the beginning was that we wanted canapes style so guests could mingle freely and not feel tied to a table with the same people all night. This was great for everyone, but honestly, so full on for me. I didn’t get to eat or sit down once. The attention from everyone is lovely but incredibly overwhelming, particularly in Jimmy Choos, a tight dress and no food! I completely understand why sit-down is a must. You get a moment to breathe, eat and to hold your hubby’s hand.
