These cool cats have been “together 4.5 years, and best friends almost 7,” explains the bride who wore a whimsical Lost in Paris gown. They had a silent disco to deal with the noise restrictions after 10 pm and for that reason alone, this is one wedding we kinda wish we attended! THE VENUE “Kangaroo Valley Bush Retreat was the second and last venue we visited. We were really attracted to having a mid-week wedding and it was an added bonus that all of our loved ones could stay on site. The natural bush setting and rock cathedral took our breath away. We loved that we could DIY to our heart’s content and BYO – it made it really easy to personalise our day.”
DIY “Most of our wedding was DIY, all of the decorations and styling were done by our gorgeous friends and family. I collected jars for candles and vases from my work colleagues for about six months leading up to the wedding (shout out to my legend Mum for washing them all for me). The day before, we had a wreath making station to hang foraged greenery from the ceiling and we also had a bunch of our stylish friends put together our bouquets with whatever was seasonal and native. Our signage, seating charts and invites were done by friends and family and the rug we got married on was from our bedroom. My mum grew all the succulents for the favours, Oliver’s sister hand made the crocheted coasters, and Oliver made all our guests hampers to enjoy over the three days.”
THE DRESS “I’m quite the procrastinator, so four weeks out of the wedding I decided to order a ‘try at home’ Dreamweaver gown from Lost in Paris. I loved the ethics behind this brand and what they stand for. Once I tried it on and it felt so right, I was alone in my bedroom, no makeup on and my hair unbrushed and I already felt so ethereal, I didn’t even want to share a sneaky snap with my friends as I didn’t need any validation- it was perfect. Alyssa [the designer and owner] was such an angel, she made the process very easy and even came to my house to measure me up. We made a few changes to the original design so it suited my body shape even more and I picked it up four days out from my wedding.”
REFERENCES “We found majority of our vendors on Hello May by looking at previously featured weddings, and vibing ones that made us feel emotional even though we didn’t know them – haha! Scott Surplice Photography and Bottlebrush Films were gems we discovered through the Directory and previous weddings we had seen listed.”
WE’RE GLAD WE… “We had a noise restriction of 10 pm being a weeknight, and we weren’t quite ready to stop partying then, so we hired headphones, uploaded a groovy playlist and had one epic silent disco. At 10.01 we asked one person from each table to be sacrificed to the dance floor, and within 20 minutes the d-floor was full. It was so much fun.”
STANDOUT VENDORS “Scott Surplice Photography was legendary and felt like one of our guests. He is such a natural at capturing the day in such an easy way and were blown away by the photos we received. The videographer Andrew (of Bottlebrush Films) had such a laid back presence and we connected with him and Scott instantly. Our celebrant Rosemary Johnson was so calming – she took us through each step and made us feel so relaxed, something that’s invaluable. The owner of our catering company Katrina (of Caterina) was amazing and even brought in veggies from her garden at home to cook a plant-based feast. Special shout out Alyssa from Lost in Paris who managed to make me a dress in under four weeks – you’re my hero!”
