It’s an urban escape in every sense of the word and Cat and Chris, who have been together for “Ten. Long. Years… Kidding!” look just as loved-up as ever in these gorgeous photos taken by one of our friends and Directory Vendors, Damien Milan Photography. The bride wore a stunning, beaded Karen Willis Holmes creation and her bridesmaids rocked Shona Joy like no one’s business. Scroll down for all the epic details…
THE VENUE “We visited a few venues, but ultimately Ovolo Woolloomooloo won out. We wanted to be able to have the ceremony and reception at one location to make it easy for our guests, and the staff at Ovolo were so switched on – gracefully answering my many questions and accomodating all our requests. Nothing was too difficult.”
FAVOURITE DETAIL “The flowers. One half of The Ivy League duo is my primary school best friend, Carla. I’m not the type of girl to have thought too long about what I’d want for my wedding day, but I knew that I wanted Carla to do my flowers before Chris and I even got engaged. Having her be a part of our day was amazing and she is such a talented florist. Everything was stunning and hugely exceeded my expectations.”
DIY “I designed all the collateral, from invites to the seating chart and it was laborious! Designing wedding stationery is usually one of the more relaxing jobs I do [as a graphic designer] but designing for yourself? That’s a struggle. I was so indecisive and put a lot of pressure on myself to make it modern and timeless. I probably gave myself the worst brief I’ve ever worked off.”
THE DRESS “My dress is the Cassie from Karen Willis Holmes. I knew the cut I wanted from the start – long sleeved and backless. I probably tried on 10 dresses over 6 weeks, but the Cassie was one of my first and when I kept comparing everything else to that dress, I knew I needed to go back. The consultants there were such a pleasure, and even held back my size from being shipped to the US (the last 10 in the country) so I could try it on one more time.”
FAVOURITE MEMORY “Everybody getting down to the band. Duke Music were an absolute riot and people were up and dancing immediately after they finished their mains. It was ridiculous. Hair was flying, wine was spilling, my mate even busted out a pretty good worm. I had a blast.”
WE’RE GLAD WE… “Did a first look. Chris and I met up before the ceremony to see each other for the first time by ourselves and get some photos before guests arrived. Having spent time together beforehand made standing up there in front of all our family and friends much less nerve-racking, and meant that we actually got to spend time with our guests immediately after the ceremony. We also have some pretty adorable photos of that moment alone which Chris and I love.”
STANDOUT VENDORS “Our celebrant, Michelle Amestoy (of Marry Me Michelle) wrote a ceremony so personal to us that our guests thought she was our friend. She was the perfect balance of professional and easy-going and as Chris and I clearly can’t take anything seriously, least of all our wedding vows, Michelle was more than ready to lean into all our stupid jokes. The best part: after signing the paperwork she took part in a celebratory fireball shot with us.”
