They met on their way to a music festival back in 2015 and the rest is history for Kate and Phil. The creative couple (Phil’s many talents include being a professional illustrator) and Kate (writer, blogger and radio announcer) had a refreshingly-colourful wedding and enlisted the help of some of our fave directory vendors to make it their own. With Folk + Follow on photography, The Future Mrs on makeup, rings by Grew & Co and the bride wearing Grace Loves Lace and Forever Soles, it was always going to be a cracker! Scroll down for all the deets…
THE VENUE “I knew I wanted to have a beautiful, nature-filled spot, not too far from Sydney. When I was explaining to my friend Mel that my favourite area on the South Coast was the bends just past Kiama where the green hills flow down towards the ocean, she turned to me and said ‘you know there’s a wedding venue in that very spot’. It was the second venue we looked at, and we loved it right away.”
THE THEME “I spent hours scouring Pinterest and originally I got tempted by all the whites that were all in, but I’ve always loved colour. We also wanted to invite our loved ones to a fun, celebratory wedding and white ain’t fun! I decided on bright, jewel tones and went from there. Another element was incorporating Phil’s touch as a professional illustrator. He’d played with caricature versions of us in the past, which I loved. So he went wild with it. On the save the dates, invites, seating plan, favours (little blank page notebooks), menu cards… He even painted us on bits of wooden board we found at antique shops. His touches were everywhere.”
THE DRESS “The day before I was set to fly up to the Gold Coast to try on Grace Loves Lace gowns, they released the ‘Emanuela’, and kindly let me change my try on options last minute. The whole Grace Loves Lace experience was lovely- champagne, private dressing room- it was great. When I tried on the gown, my Mum gasped- just the reaction a girl wants from her wedding dress. I found the bridesmaids dresses much harder. We had a Facey page where we posted pics and links and shared ideas (which I highly recommend). I really adore all their dresses and they looked kick-arse against the kinda Mexican/ Spanish vibe of my dress.”
A WORD OF ADVICE “Have a glass of water somewhere near the altar. I didn’t feel very nervous, but my mouth went bone dry and I was just wishing during the ceremony I could have had a sip. Also, colour can bring fun and splashing on flowers is money well spent. Hell, just get Jasmine Christie from Anamundi Studio if you can.”
STANDOUT VENDORS “Folk + Follow were so easygoing on the day and really just felt like a couple of our mates. They kept it relaxed and mainly just shot what they saw– the results were stunning. Also, Ben Ager. From the attention to detail of his preparation, to his heartfelt delivery and natty outfit, he was a brilliant celebrant.”
