Life’s all about taking chances, isn’t it? Well, at least that’s what Brett’s philosophy was after insisting that taking a photo of the gorgeous sunset from a fig tree was absolutely necessary. Despite the private property, no trespassing’ sign, he ran over and climbed the tree, urging Natalia to join him.
£As I was all dressed up ready for our nice dinner we had booked back in Byron, I was a bit hesitant but he insisted it was worth it. So I climbed under a barb wire fence, dodged the multiple cow patties to finally arrive at the tree. Waiting there for me was a ring box tied from one of the branches and Brett standing next to it, then he asked me to marry him!!
As a result, fig trees were, of course, a big part of their wedding day, captured by Mitch Pohl Photography. Having decided a beach ceremony wouldn’t be private, Natalia and Brett landed on Fig Tree Restaurant in Byron Bay where they created their eco-friendly, boho, rustic themed day. £We made sure the invited, favours and decorations were as eco-friendly as possible. For the bridal part outfits we wants something practical that could be easily worn again and not just a wear-once outfit. I will be selling my dress so that another lucky bride can wear such a beautiful gown.
Natalia’s gown, from New Zealand bridal boutique Rue De Seine, was exactly what she was after and a little bit more. £I knew I didn’t want anything too over the top but also wanted something quite different and it had to be lace. I found it on my first wedding dress shopping trip and knew it was the one when I tried it on and showed my mum and maid of honour who both burst into happy tears, explains Natalia, who despite absolutely loving her dress may’ve underestimated its length?
Going against the norm, these two lovebirds told everyone a first dance wasn’t their thing but surprised everyone but teaching themselves a dance routine: Michael Jackson’s Thriller. £We started on the right foot but unfortunately when I let go of my dress to do the oh-so-important hand movements, I tripped on my dress and lost the timing! Even still we just laughed through it. Brett nailed the whole dance (he told me to say that).
We all know marriage is about compromise, patience? and maybe exaggerating your partner’s dancing creds (no one’s pointing any fingers here!) but these two saw it as one of the things they were yet to tick off on their journey together. £At the moment we are still giggling at calling each other husband and wife. Plus we got to have a kick arse party with everyone dearest to us, why wouldn’t you get married?!
