With a proposal in mind but the exact details unplanned, videographer Mike nailed the location where he asked his partner of seven years Zoe (who works in the music festival industry), to be with him for life.

Driving down to Zoe’s dad’s beach house in Blairgowrie in the Victorian Mornington Peninsula, Mike suggested they stop at a little beach for a quick look at the water. Given that Zoe had been visiting the peninsula her whole life and never noticed this beach before made her pretty intrigued.

“We were walking towards the sand and when I turned around Mike was on one knee. Turns out the location wasn’t planned at all, Mike just stumbled on it on our drive down. It was beautiful! My whole family was waiting for me at my dad’s house and we celebrated with many wines and good times,” Zoe tells us.

And so this setting would perfectly set the scene for their wedding day nine months later. Captured by Lilli Waters from I Got You Babe with florals by Pomp and Splendour, the pair wed and partied with 200 guests in a casual, stand-up affair at a private property in – you guessed it – the Mornington Peninsula.

“I was lucky enough to find The Hamptons House and pretty much stalked the owner until she agreed to let me get married at her incredible home,” says Zoe, adding that the house was really the star of the day.

“It was such a beautiful setting and backdrop for the day, we really didn’t need to add much other detail. The shingles cladding on the exterior of the house and the palm trees that we got married under to name a few of my favourite.”

For her bridal get-up, Zoe wanted to steer away from a traditional dress so found two pieces, a dress she instantly fell in love with from One Day Bridal and a white Ellery suit which both had dramatic sleeves. “I had to have my Bianca Jagger moment,” jokes Zoe.

By focusing their energies on a few key features (the house, the florals and marquee) and keeping the styling details to a minimum, Zoe and Mike achieved a retro Hampton House party theme without trying too hard. Cue walking-down-the-aisle Talking Heads song ‘This Must Be The Place’.
