Isobel and Steve had never been the kind of couple to follow the crowd so when they got engaged they figured they’d just do their own thing, like they always had. “We wanted every aspect of our wedding to be a personal reflection of us and our style – colourful, fun and simple with nothing taken too seriously”, says Isobel, a makeup artist who used a mix of giant pastel balloons, mini pineapples, mixed metals, candles and flowers as decoration for their day of good times.
“Basically everything wedding related we did ourselves or roped our talented friends and family into helping out. Flowers, decorations and styling, invites, cakes, dessert buffet – all DIY projects.” Held at Watsons Bay Hotel, some things they did outsource were their incredible photographer Justin Aaron and their tattoo artist (yes, you read that correctly). Following their ceremony, this pair disappeared upstairs to go and get celebratory tattoos – a moment which Isobel recalls as being her favourite part of the day. “It gave us an opportunity to have a private moment and take in the fact that we just got hitched!”
For Steve it was an opportunity to catch his breath after seeing his beautiful bride in her custom made Brigitte May gown and Amber Sceats head piece for the first time. Of her dress, Isobel tells us “My dress maker, Brigitte, and I were introduced through a mutual friend, I knew exactly what I wanted and Brigitte turned my design into reality. I don’t think I will ever forget how excited we were when we found the gun metal silver sequinned material and the two shades of soft blush tulle in the fabric store… Heaven.”
