A retro disco soirée in the Snowy Mountains to mark the beginning of married life for the effortlessly cool Ash and Tim. Together for nearly a decade after meeting during Ash’s first snow season in Jindabyne in 2016, this pair tied the knot on a sun-drenched summer’s day at a private property bordering Kosciuszko National Park – a place that has meant the world to Tim’s family since his grandfather built it in 1988. Photographer Leanne Doyle Photography captured every incredible moment, from the flash mob first dance to the disco balls strung through the gum trees.

Ash and Tim named their event “The Windshuttle Country Club” and asked guests to dress to their interpretation of “funky formal” – think Studio 54 meets Slim Aarons country club meets the alpine landscape. The result? A wedding their guests are still talking about. Immerse yourself in Ash and Tim’s Snowy Mountains celebration for retro wedding theme inspo, DIY styling ideas, and plenty of mountain wedding takeaways you’ll want to note.

Getting Married in the Snowy Mountains – A Private Property Wedding in Jindabyne

“It meant a lot to us to have the wedding at a property that has meant so much to us and our family over the years. We’ve had so many celebrations there, and with Tim’s grandpa, who built the property in 1988, no longer with us, and his grandma now in her late nineties, it felt really important to bring her there for this celebration and the unique opportunity to have the whole family together. We had always talked about the tennis court being a cool wedding venue. It’s a gorgeous, well-maintained court nestled under iconic Snowy Mountains gum trees. It just felt like the perfect quirky venue that would set our wedding apart from other celebrations we’ve had at the property.”

The Retro Disco Wedding Theme | Studio 54 Meets Snowy Mountains Country Club

“The inspiration was a retro disco-themed soirée with a country club feel to tie in with the tennis court. I described it to friends as ‘Studio 54 meets Slim Aarons country club meets the alpine landscape’ and they all thought I was mad. We incorporated some retro tennis elements like tennis chairs embroidered with ‘The Windshuttle Country Club’ and old tennis racquets, alongside modern, romantic floral displays. I wanted disco balls absolutely everywhere, so we had 10 hanging from the festoon lighting across the tennis court. We also hung a large disco ball from a branch on a big gum tree just outside the court and put a spotlight on it. There was a DIY disco ball sculptural display and other disco pieces placed around.”

The Bride’s Wedding Dress – Lola Varma’s Billie Gown from Mrs Fray

“I had a vision to wear a retro mini dress by one of my favourite bridal designers. I had planned the whole outfit down to every accessory. When I walked into Mrs Fray in Canberra to try on that mini, the diamond straps on the Lola Varma Billie gown caught my eye. As I walked over and saw the thick, crunchy silk dupion, I was completely obsessed. It was love at first sight and I knew it was my dress.”

The Groom’s Wedding Suit – M.J. Bale Tuxedo for a Snowy Mountains Wedding

“We went shopping and walked into M.J. Bale first. Tim tried on a tuxedo and it was honestly the easiest decision. It fit him so beautifully.”

Boozy Tiramisu Wedding Cake & An Epic Dancefloor

“A boozy tiramisu as soon as we entered the reception was an absolute hit. Not only was it such a fun moment to walk in and cut the cake straight away, but everyone ate it… and I mean everyone. Rich Penny DJ and the dance floor to end all dance floors. Having a DJ of Rich’s calibre was worth every dollar. His ability to read the vibe and the crowd was incredible, no one left the dance floor from the moment he started until the last bus..”
