Dani popped the question in his home country of Uruguay, on a freezing cold (but oh so heartwarming) day. “It was my first time there and he was feeling all of the feelings,” our bride Chloe shared. “He was shaking – from what I thought was the cold, but it was a mix of nerves and the cold, he later told me. It was beautiful.”
The twosome tied the knot in spring – rustic and “unapologetically” them being the occasion’s inspiration. “It was a DIY wedding for sure,” the couple explained, with talented friends and family generously rolling up their sleeves. Case in point: photographer friend Haus of Rae (also the face behind planning/styling biz, Camino Events Co) was on-hand capturing the magic. Rae even spontaneously stepped in to do Chloe’s wedding hair (legend behaviour!)
As for the question of where to host, nothing compared to the bride’s parents’ picturesque property in Bilambil Heights, North East NSW. “We are so glad and grateful that we got to have such a personal day that felt so ‘us’ – being at a personal venue. It well and truly made the day and our guests could feel it. It felt so incredibly genuine, relaxed, supportive and warm. I’ve never felt so much collective love in one spot.”
MEMORABLE WEDDING MORNING MOMENTS
“I’ll never forget the feeling of first looking at our ceremony sign that read: Welcome to the wedding of Dani and Chloe. It was the first time that we had seen it written out like that and that’s actually the first moment it felt real. Another was Dani running around like a headless chicken trying to organise the last few things before he got ready, while I sat relaxed in my aircon room, my music playing and doing my makeup. Amongst him being stressed, he knew that I hadn’t eaten, so he made and brought me an omelette.”
THE BRIDAL GOWN
“I always knew I didn’t want an over-the-top dress. Mum came along with me to Pacific Fair to find any ol’ white dress. The first dress we tried on was ‘the one’.”
SENTIMENTAL WEDDING MUSIC & A SURPRISE FIRST DANCE
“The aisle/entrance song was a ‘How To Train Your Dragon’ rendition. We both love the movie and the soundtrack brings us so many happy memories. The recessional song was ‘Here I Am’, Bryan Adams. This is a very sentimental song for me and my family, and Dani was gracious enough to allow me to have this song as our recessional song. I really wanted us to have a first dance but it didn’t really suit the day. Dani and I met while dancing, so it was a bit of a sentimental reason as to why I wanted a first dance, but Dani wasn’t as keen. We also owned a Latin Dance studio for 1.5 years. To my surprise, on the night, he played one of my favourite Latin songs and he ended up dancing with me while everyone else watched, which ended up doubling as its own first dance.”
EAST COAST WEDDING VENDORS THAT WENT ABOVE & BEYOND
“Rae, Bree (photographers) and Liam (videographer) – rhey are my good friends and they truly went above and beyond. They were hired to be just photographers/videographers but quickly understood my incompetency and took over to make sure the day ran smoothly. A quote from Bree ‘You’re so lucky that you can get away with this cos we’re friends’ she says as she is steaming my dress and Rae is doing my hair.”
