Katerina & Christian’s Canberra Wedding at The Boat House

“The Boat House is a bit of an institution in Canberra – so it was on our list from the very beginning,” shared Katerina and Christian, who tied the knot at this picturesque lakeside location.

Befitting the season, the lovebirds of 13 years opted for a rich, warm-toned autumnal colour palette, seen in details like their flowers and bridesmaids frocks.

Behind the scenes, it was a showcase of Canberra wedding talent, with the newlyweds explaining that many vendors (including photography icons Corinna & Dylan) are local, well-known businesses, discovered by the couple through a mix of local knowledge, socials and Hello May (that’s what we’re here for!)

FRUIT & VEGIE TABLESCAPES

“Our absolute favourite detail was the floral/fruit & vegetable tablescapes that Loulou from Moxom & Whitney created for us. Each arrangement was unique, and got many compliments. To go with the theme, our cake also had its own beautiful floral landscape.”

DIY WEDDING STATIONERY

“We are both pretty creative people, and had strong ideas about what we wanted our wedding signage and invitations to look and feel like, so we designed these ourselves. After about 10 drafts of each and lots of collaboration together, we were really proud of what we came up with.”

“Canberra’s small enough that many of our vendors are well-known businesses who have been consistently amazing for many years. We had bought flowers from Moxom & Whitney before, and we love Loulou’s approach and creativity, so that one was easy. After a bit of research on instagram for photography, Corinna & Dylan were the standout for their laid-back and nostalgic photographic perspective. For many of our vendors, we used a mix of local knowledge and friend’s experiences, as well as instagram and the Hello May 2024 Real Wedding Special. Our photographer Dylan brought the most incredible energy on the day. He is very good at reading the room and capturing big and small moments. As a venue, The Boat House was simply perfect – the food and service were unforgettable. Moxom & Whitney worked colourful, floral magic, and worked very hard to pull off a vibe which went beyond our wildest dreams. We were so very lucky to have a wonderful group of vendors who made our day unforgettable.”

SUBTLE GREEK CUSTOMS

“We made a simple nod to our Greek heritage with rice throwing at the end of our ceremony, and sugared almond bonbonnieres for all our guests. Our parents also made simple and lovely tributes to some close family members who had passed, which felt very special.”

MEMORABLE MOMENTS

“It’s difficult to choose just one! I had a very relaxed and fun time getting ready with my bridesmaids throughout the day, and was buzzing by the time we arrived at The Boat House. The ceremony itself was super emotional, and we both loved gathering around afterwards for a big group photo of everyone. We cried with laughter during speeches and adored our wedding band. But our most favourite moment was when we both stepped out towards the end of the evening for a quiet walk along the lake and soaked it all up.”
