Doing life together for about a decade, Elly and Brad said ‘I do’ overlooking Perth’s stunning Swan River with an intimate crowd of 60 there to cheer them on. Joyfully photographed by Red Eclectic, it was a real darlin’ of a day – relaxed, fun, intentional, and organised only six months in advance (impressive!)

Now officially newlyweds, Elly and Brad offer these sage words: “Everyone will have an opinion and it can be easy to get overwhelmed,” they explain. “But, it’s your day, focus on what matters most to you as a couple.”

For this bride and groom, that meant getting ready and walking down the aisle together, which “made the day feel more relaxed and meaningful.” “I’m also so glad we stuck with the DIY route,” they add, “even though it was a lot of work.”

Pizza dining, DIYs, and one chic, sunny bridal dress – inspo galore in this one, folks…

THE VENUE

“We wanted somewhere that had a view and was close to home, so we had been looking online at venues around Fremantle, saw the Tennis Club, drove past and loved the view and the big balcony. We organised to have a look and took our tape measure and paper to start planning. We didn’t look at any other venues.”

THE VIBE

“We didn’t necessarily have a set theme, we just wanted the day to feel relaxed and fun. We spent time scrolling through Instagram, Pinterest, Hello May and other wedding websites, saving anything that caught our eye. We often referred back to these images when making decisions to keep everything cohesive. Since we were doing everything ourselves, we also had to be realistic with what we could pull off.”

DIY

“The majority of our wedding was DIY. The biggest task by far was creating the backdrops. Since we had a smaller guest list, we wanted to make the large hall feel more intimate. With a lot of help from my parents, we used temporary fencing and around 100 metres of fabric to create draped walls, a backdrop for the cheese table, and tablecloths. Over the course of six months, we also collected all the vases and silver platters from op shops and friends. Brad did an amazing job with the signage, too.”

MEMORABLE MOMENT

“There are honestly too many to choose from! One really special part was getting ready together. We had spent the morning setting up the venue, which was quite stressful, so having that quiet time together before everything kicked off was really lovely. Another favourite moment was walking down the aisle together – it felt really special. Our first dance, followed by the dance floor opening up, was also a huge highlight. Seeing all our favourite people dancing, laughing, and having the best time was such a joyful and unforgettable way to celebrate.”

LITTLE LOL

“Guests had started arriving while my family was still trying to set up our ceremony backdrop, which kept blowing over in the wind! My poor brother was running around in shorts, trying to help fix it in time. In the end, they had to cut the fabric down the middle and wrap it around the frame to make it stay put. It wasn’t the original plan, and it ended up uneven, but it was there and it gave us all a good laugh.”

STANDOUT VENDORS

“Yes, we were so lucky with the vendors we ended up working with. Kat at Red Eclectic was an absolute gem, she was calm, helpful and on top of everything. Vows by Val made our ceremony feel so personal and heartfelt, and Pizza Lab was incredible. Not only was the food delicious, but their team was great. Each of them went above and beyond, and we’re so grateful to have had them as part of our day!”

Chill, fun, and not afraid to embrace the untraditional – photographer Kat (aka Red Eclectic) NEEDS to be on your radar if you’re planning a WA wed. These nuptials are right up your alley and sure to serve as good inspo for your own special day.
