“Connection and fun” were what Elly and Tim aimed for, and it’s safe to say they nailed it! Just one look at these happy snaps courtesy of Heart and Colour, and we know you’ll agree. The dance floor, the pink dress, the signature drink (named after the couple’s furbaby, Sunny, of course). These two even made party-prep fun by instigating ‘Wedding Planning Date Night’ — genius!
Elly and Tim took their styling cues from our very own Real Wedding Special Volume 8, infusing their joyous day with plenty of colour. Found In Earth was responsible for those oh-so-pretty florals, which were the perfect accompaniment to the bride’s LOLAKNIGHT accessories, as well as the gorgeous Bec + Bridge frocks Elly’s bridesmaids were seen sporting. Ok, enough chit-chat! Scroll down to read about Elly and Tim’s day.
THE VIBE “We read the book The Art Of The Gathering and loved the idea of consciously selecting feelings that we wanted to evoke for the day, then actively tying that throughout the whole experience. For us, it was connection and fun. We had events on the three days leading up to the wedding around Launceston to help foster those connections amongst our guests; everything from hiking to a brewery visit, and a surprise raffle to select our witnesses. On the day itself we had champagne on arrival for the ceremony, long family-style seating, and personalised handwritten letters instead of place cards. Visually the theme was blush pink and modern curved lines.”
REFERENCES “A combination of our own research online and Instagram, plus recommendations from our planner Artaud & Co. Hubert & Dan were a must from the moment we decided to get married in Launceston. They are widely known for their amazing menus and it was important to us to showcase the incredible local produce Tasmania has to offer. I took inspiration for the colourful styling concept from the Hello May Real Wedding Special Volume 8.”
MEMORABLE MOMENT Tim: “Firstly, seeing Elly appear at the top of the aisle. That moment, I was absolutely bowled over. Secondly, we hand wrote personalised letters to each guest and used them as place cards. The moment the whole room sat down for the first time and realised their cards were in fact envelopes with messages inside was totally electric. We wanted to tell each person just how touched we were to have them with us and how important they were to us individually. We knew we wouldn’t be able to do it in person, so we decided to do it with these letters. It took the most time of anything in the preparation, but I’m so glad we did it.” Elly: “The dance floor! From the beginning, a pumping dance floor was a priority for us and boy did we deliver! The combination of incredible tunes from The Foley Artists and the electric energy from our guests came together perfectly. A highlight moment was Tim and I being lifted up on chairs, holding on for dear life, singing our hearts out to Wonderwall. ”
LITTLE LOL “During dinner our phones got taken by our bridal party, passed around the table (twice!) and every guest took a selfie. Waking up the next morning and seeing 160-plus selfies of our favourite people was hilarious.”
A WORD OF ADVICE “We implemented wedding planning date nights where we would take our laptop along with us to dinner and work on any tasks we needed to get done. Doing this with a drink in hand and some delicious food made it way more fun! Use a Monday board to manage the project, adding each task in and assigning it to one person to keep on track and share the load. Schedule time in advance to work on wedding tasks to ensure you get things done, we called these ‘wedding power hours’.”
