We don’t need an excuse for a destination wedding, but Thea and Mat had a pretty darn good one. Not long after becoming betrothed (during a romantic moonlit stroll on Hamilton Island, btw) their original wedding plans were quite literally washed away in the devastating NSW Northern Rivers floods. Not feeling right about having a celebration in the area at the time, they opted for more intimate nuptials down in Tassie, and it was meant to be. Decked out in a dreamy Rue De Seine gown and snazzy M.J. Bale suit, the couple looked picture-perfect as they tied the knot overlooking the rolling hills of the Coal River Valley. Scroll down to see the snaps by the talented Taylor Kezia, no less, and find out what deets made their day go off without a hitch…
THE VENUE “After we made the decision to change the location of our wedding from the Northern Rivers to Tasmania, it didn’t take long for us to book in Frogmore Creek. It was all so easy – it felt like this was the wedding we were supposed to have all along. We decided to get married in the morning and then have a long lunch at the winery. We still wanted to have a party part of the wedding, so had an after-party at In The Hanging Garden back in Hobart. It’s a really cool space with a big glass ‘cathedral’ and different bars, pop-up food vendors and great DJs. We had a bus bring everyone back in the evening and kicked on there late into the night.”
THE INSPO “We wanted our theme to feel like an enchanted meadow. We both love nature – we’re happiest when we are in a forest or at the beach. Lani from The Romantics brought this to life with our flowers. It was important for us to get married outside, and we were lucky that the rain cleared up the morning of the wedding so we were able to stand on the grass for our ceremony.”
THE DRESS “I love, love, love my dress. I had seen the dress in Rue de Seine’s new campaign, however, there was nowhere in Australia to try it on when I was needing to lock in a dress. But then Babushka Ballerina managed to get the dress in and I couldn’t help but go and try it on. As soon as I put it on I fell in love. The silk lace, the sleeves, the splits, I just love everything about it.”
THE SUIT “The suit was from M.J. Bale. I felt confident, it felt different to all of the others I had tried and I knew that this was the look I wanted for our wedding. I don’t wear a lot of suits and was a little uncomfortable trying them all on, but the staff were very helpful. They made me feel at home and gave me great advice on the looks. By the end of the fitting I was actually enjoying it.”
WE’RE GLAD WE… “Had a destination wedding and kept it small. We spent a week on Bruny Island before the wedding so we went into the wedding relaxed, then we got to spend the week after the wedding honeymooning up the east coast of Tassie. Keeping the numbers small allowed us to spend time with each person throughout the day.”
REFERENCES “We found most of our vendors through Instagram, internet searching, and of course, Hello May.”
STANDOUT VENDORS “We are obsessed with our photos by Taylor Kezia. She made the trip to Tassie to document our day and did the most incredible job. Looking through the photos is like reliving the best day ever. They are something we will treasure forever. Our amazing celebrant Katrina Holt (from Wonderlove Weddings) travelled with us too. She crafted the most beautiful ceremony that was so personal and authentic. The venue, Frogmore Creek, was perfect. They made the whole process so easy. We live in Byron Bay, so organised the wedding from afar, but their coordinator Steph made the process seamless in the planning and on the day.”
Now, before you go any further, don’t forget to check out more from this couple’s photographer, Taylor Kezia on our Directory, and also a bunch of very well-dressed grooms by M.J. Bale here (if suits are still on your to-do list, of course). But first – scroll down, friends…
