With the groom’s brother (and best man) very nearly missing the wedding due to an expired passport (it’s happened to the best of us), Skye and Patrick remained cool, calm and collected when it came to planning a wedding from abroad. “We moved to Texas a couple of weeks after we got engaged…” said the pair, who (after a two year engagement) decided to have their big day back in the Land Down Under on a family property. “We wanted the event to be more of a party than a wedding. Kind of like a backyard BBQ with lawn games and beers, and without the expected wedding formalities.”
In keeping with the low key vibes, Skye tells us her dress hunting experience was as smooth as could be, “I saw the dress on Reformation‘s Instagram page and I bought it online that day, and BOOM. Done!”
With a bevy of fantastic vendors there the lend a helping hand (We Play Records on the tunes and Little Wren Flowers just to name a few) the couple tell us their photographer was a total knockout. “We were insistent on being laid back about the photos and didn’t want anything to be staged or forced. This is great in theory but not always in practice! [Nicola of Fox & Kin] found the middle ground and helped us make decisions about timing and photos that made the day easier and less stressful. Plus her photos are rad!”
Patrick tells us the stand out moment of the day was walking down the aisle hand in hand with his bride to be. “We were totally caught up thinking about the music, food and drinks and totally underestimated the significance of the ceremony…Instead of bible readings we had our best mates and then our Mums say something from their hearts. There was also plenty of funny moments with toddlers wailing, people in the audience calling out, and me having to use one hand to hold Skye’s skirt when the wind blew to prevent a Marilyn Monroe moment!”
