A psychologist by day and musician by night, Yara’s obvious inability to stay still helped when it came time to plan her and Aaron’s Latin/Spanish-inspired ‘street party’. Over 12 months she organised an amazing nine piece Cuban band, traditional Spanish tapas, a custom made gown courtesy of Paula & Jo Dressmakers and piûñatas in lieu of a wedding cake.
“I just wanted it to be like a big party, no boring stuff”, she says, adding that they also wanted to support small, local businesses. “… we used mostly word of mouth from friends and family.” Held at Distribution Lane – one of Perth’s newest event spaces – Kay of MaminkWink played a lead role as their stylist, florist and planner while Manuel of Paellas and Tapas (who donates part of his revenue to Oxfam and The Fred Hollows Foundation) made sure that no one went hungry.
And last but not least was their photographer Melissa Mills. “We met Mel… through some mutual friends many years ago and instantly clicked with her… Since then she has become a very in demand photographer which is not surprising, given her amazing ability to tell people’s stories so honestly through her photos. For this exact reason, we had to get Mel in our day too!”
