Welcome to Wes and Archie’s effing magical day, where the location was Melbourne, but the vibes were Mediterranean. The couple of six years admit they didn’t choose the Euro theme, it kinda chose them when they fell head over heels with their venue’s Italian-inspired charm. Plus, the sunny setting brought back all the mems from that dreamy day in Santorini, where Archie popped the question. “We had spent the day playing cards, drinking cocktails and lounging in our pool. When sunset came, Archie asked me to grab his hat. Sitting underneath was a ring box. I picked it up and turned around to find him on one knee with the sun setting over the caldera behind him. To say there were tears would be an understatement.”
Our talented mate Jackson Grant was on camera duties, which explains why every photo is *chef’s kiss*. The whole summery sun-kissed celebration is below so grab a spritz and scroll on!
THE VENUE “Farm Vigano was actually the first venue that we visited, and we instantly fell in love but didn’t think that it could be that easy. So we persisted and visited two other venues, only to go running back to Farm Vigano. We loved that it felt ‘destination’ but was within pretty close proximity of the CBD. We also loved the European-style setting, which coincidentally ended up leading the styling for the whole wedding.”
THE VIBE “Given that the venue is heavily Italian in theme, we really leaned into this and embraced a touch of kitsch. Having both fallen in love with Italy on our engagement trip to Europe, it felt fitting for our special day. The dress code for the day was: Italian summer / garden party / upstage the bride. We really wanted it to be bright and fun and wanted our guests to take the dress code seriously. We provided a link to a Pinterest page with outfit inspo pics. I had a pretty specific Italian-inspired colour pallete of terracotta, olive, green, sage, lemon and salmon.”
FAVE DETAILS “I used the illustrations that our friend Anika did across our website, welcome signs, seating charts, place cards, and essentially anywhere I could. Our ceramic cake topper, made by another friend, Michelle, was so kitsch and fun. It’s now a beautiful memento, proudly mounted on our wall. And the fans! I ordered them cheap online and made hubby sit down with me to tie ribbons onto them all.”
DIY “What didn’t we DIY is probably a better question! I’m a pretty creative individual and will generally (to my detriment) look at something and go, ‘I can make that’. The items that we DIY’ed for the wedding were: website, invites, welcome signs, seating chart, flower plinths, fans, menus, place cards, placemats, napkins (I taught myself to sew and made 140 of them), table signage, hand painted flower pots… I think that’s it.”
MEMORABLE MOMENT “Our first dance. With both of us enjoying a regular turn about the dance floor, we knew we had to do something big, so we spent a couple of months choreographing a rock and roll style dance to Finally by Cece Peniston. It was also the last [formality] for the day, so we could really let our hair down and run a muck after that was complete.”
STANDOUT VENDOR “Our photographer, Jackson, was one of our highlights and instantly set the tone for our day, allowing us to be silly and fun. We really didn’t want the traditional, stuffy wedding pics, and boy, did he deliver!”
MARRIAGE MEANS… “For both of us, it was really important to have a wedding to celebrate and declare our love for one another in front of all our loved ones. So many people fought hard for a really long time to give us the right to be acknowledged as a married couple, so to even have the possibility of getting married is something that we don’t take for granted. It also means that I will provide endless cooked meals for Archie and that Archie will provide me with endless bottles of red wine.”
We don’t know what fairy dust Jackson Grant is sprinkling into his wedding albums, but these pics are literally glowing with good vibes. If you’re equally as obsessed, jump into Jackson’s inbox here.
