Sophie & Nick had originally planned to tie the knot on their five-year anniversary in New Zealand but Covid, of course, had other plans. Luckily for them, the incred Melbourne wedding industry had their backs. We’re talking Cloth & Confetti on styling, Pomp & Splendour on blooms, One More Song providing tunes, Wendy does Weddings on legals, Nikki McCrone on snaps, Post Office Hotel providing the venue, Karen Willis Holmes on that gorg gown and M.J. Bale on suits…phew! What a line-up! Scroll down for the rest of this pair’s story…
THE VENUE “When we finally pulled the pin on our dream of getting married in NZ, I had to get stuck into re-planning the wedding here in Melbourne. I jumped straight on Instagram and through wedding blogs found Post Office Hotel. I think I viewed it that same week and the same day locked it in! I knew immediately it was the right place for us. A relaxed vibe but I knew the team there had tonnes of experience in making epic weddings happen.”
FAVOURITE DETAILS “Can I say everything?! Look, the cake from Mirjana and its florals were UNREAL. The ceremony arbour displays from Pomp & Splendour were next level – our guests still rave about them. The attention to detail Jazmine’s team from Cloth & Confetti had in regard to our tablescape was exactly as we had discussed. I could tell they had mixed things up a bit to ensure everything flowed and worked well together and I am very grateful to them for that. Tayla and Meg from Post Office Hotel always ensuring I had a drink in my hand was also divine. Love those ladies.”
THE DRESS “When we got engaged back in September 2019, within a couple of days I had booked an appointment at Karen Willis Holmes knowing there was a dress that I was almost certain was the one. While I was there I tried on a few others just to be sure, but it was a definite goosebumps moment when I tried my dress on. And over the two years it took to finally wear it I never wavered. I fell more in love with it and was just so, so excited to wear it! Kim looked after me over the journey and I was so grateful for her expertise and kindness. Every appointment I had was made special due to her. She is a very talented lady and made the changes to my dress perfectly. I have since had my dress drycleaned and boxed up for safekeeping – I can’t imagine not having it tucked away in the cupboard!
A TOUCH OF TRADITION “Our flowers were heavily influenced by the gardens of my mother and grandparents from over the years. I spent a lot of time talking to Petra from Pomp & Splendour about what their gardens meant to me growing up. We incorporated beautiful garden roses and daisies – flowers that symbolise family to me. We also replicated my parents’ wedding flowers with our daughter’s flower crown and accented them throughout the table settings. It was so special. The Pomp team absolutely nailed it. I cannot recommend them highly enough.”
A WORD OF ADVICE “Don’t be too hard on yourselves. A wedding is a big event with many, many elements to consider and countless options to choose from. Keep it simple. Stop and reflect on decisions needing to be made remembering that your friends and family are going to enjoy themselves no matter what. They are there to celebrate your love for each other and that goes a long way to make a party! And also – buy the champagne!
WE’RE GLAD WE “We are really glad we didn’t have long and numerous speeches. It meant we were on the dancefloor by 8 pm partying!
STANDOUT VENDORS “Nikki, our photographer, was incredible. Going above and beyond I think for her is just her normal way of doing things. We were relaxed and comfortable with her from the outset. A good photographer is worth their weight in gold in our minds.”
