Hey folks, meet Shaelah and Andrew! These delightful newlyweds have us swooning over here at Hello May with the happy snaps from their special day. Photography guru Jonas Peterson perfectly captured this unique wedding that just oozes creative genius, DIY awesomeness, but most importantly, a whole heap of love!
Andrew proposed to Shaelah after being together for eight years, during a camping trip and a sunset picnic. After celebrating the engagement, these love birds got to work on planning their big day. Their biggest inspiration was to find something that reflected the country as Shaelah had been brought up on a farm. After almost giving up finding something suitable they stumbled across the picture perfect Coronation Hall in Somerset Dam.
In a quest to save money these two love birds put their family, friends and even bridal party to work in the lead up to their special day. “My father made every single riser for the tables so we could have somewhere to stick decorations and food; he assembled them by hand the day before the wedding. My mother sourced the cutlery and plates for 150 people from opshops over the course of the year, and had her church collecting hundreds of glass jars for drinking from. We didn’t want to pay for the hire of any of these things – we did it to save money! The bridal party and partners spent a good part of the morning of the wedding chopping fruit for afternoon tea and making a huge batch of sangria for the reception which disappeared less than an hour after the reception started – and more friends got behind the bar to make more!”
The blushing bride wore a custom made bridal gown from Hoû? (now closed) complete with a vintage veil that her Mother altered on the day of the wedding. “My mother altered a vintage veil from her costume collection on the morning of the wedding because it was too long”. The bridesmaids wore dresses from Two Birds Bridesmaids, available from The Babushka Ballerina and had their hair and makeup done by the incredibly talented Tracie Weaver.
