This love story started long ago. Sarah and Jodie have technically only been together for two and a half years but were neighbours as kids. How cute is that? “Time went by and we lost touch, but ended up reconnecting a few years ago and have been inseparable since.” They had two proposals (lucky girls!) and their wedding (featuring a long list of our go-to vendors – from the venue, Lake House Daylesford and entertainment, The White Tree, to the rings, RUUSK and Grew & Co), was one to remember. They even had one of our fave photographers, Gold and Grit Photography to capture all the good times on camera. Scroll down for the details and pics to boot!
THE PROPOSAL “I (Sarah) knew that Jodie was heading down that path but I really wanted to surprise her as everyone just assumed that Jodie would propose to me. I planned a weekend away in her favourite spot and organised a photographer and a beach picnic at sunset. She was so stunned that I remember having to prompt her for an answer. Later that year I (Jodie), still wanted to surprise Sarah with a proposal of her own, so I planned a romantic night at home with our fur babies, Minnie and Merlot. I covered the house in rose petals and laid candles everywhere and had the dogs set up with signs around their necks asking ‘Mummy, would you marry me too?’”
THE VENUE “We had planned to get married on the beach in Bryon Bay, but I saw on Instagram that the Lake House Daylesford offered small weddings, so we thought we would check it out. We’ve had dinner there before and Daylesford holds a special place with us. As soon we as got there Jodie was sold and that was it. It was really the only venue we looked at.”
FAVE DETAILS “My brother walking me (Sarah) down the aisle. Unfortunately my family, in particular my parents, are not supportive of my relationship with Jodie. I have been so lucky that Jodie’s family have welcomed me with so much love but on your wedding day you always want your family to be involved. It was such a special moment to share with my brother, to have his love and support not only of me but of my wife. It was one of my favourite parts of the day. Jodie had her mum and dad walk her down the aisle and it was such a proud moment for her parents. Growing up, Jodie never thought she would be able to get married or to have her parents there so it was an emotional moment for everyone to witness.”
THE DRESS “This is something that I really struggled with. I don’t really like shopping at the best of times. After what felt like a long and arduous search, I came across Moonstruck Bride. As soon as I walked in I knew I would find something. The team were so helpful and made the experience very relaxing and the dresses were exactly the style I was looking for but having so much trouble finding. I could not recommend Moonstruck Bride highly enough. As soon as I tried on the Galatea I loved it, the grey colour and the bohemian style, that was it.”
REFERENCES “I (Sarah) spent a lot of time on Pinterest and Instagram – just like every other bride. We looked at a lot of blogs [including] Hello May. We also attended a live showcase put on by The White Tree and in addition to showcasing many of their artists there were a number of vendors from the wedding industry.”
STANDOUT VENDORS “Stina (of Gold and Grit Photography) was incredible. As soon as we met her we knew that we loved her and wanted her to capture our day. She has an incredible vibe and all our guests raved about her. We fell in love with her creativity and ability to capture simple moments and make them special. Her amazing personality made our day even more special! We were really lucky and found amazing vendors first go. Rhi from Tidbit Cakes makes the best vegan cakes! Matt Finch Celebrant was another amazing find. As soon as we met Matt we clicked. His personality and ability to make you feel comfortable was what drew us to him. On the day he was perfection, the way he told our story made the ceremony exactly the like we had wanted – personal and full of emotion.”
