After a treasure hunt proposal, Sarah and Declan kicked off a 12 month long renovation mission Sarah’s folk’s house and garden for their big day. “It turned out fantastically and we couldn’t have been happier. It ended up being so special, rather than spending money on a venue we were able to help give mum and dad a beautiful garden to keep forever! It meant so much to me and Dec that we were able to give something back to my parents who have helped us so much.”
Deciding on an almost entirely DIY wedding, the couple and their family took on the reception styling, invitations, wishing well, decor, menu, favours and ALL of the food, including the cakes. “I had been planning and crafting and crafting and planning for months and it was so so so amazing to see everything just as I had imagined it on the day. Everywhere I looked on the day there were personal touches that reminded me of my family and of Declan.”
Sarah, who wore a Rue De Seine gown from Through the White Door, recalls,” I remember starting to get quite nervous as I heard people arriving and then the moment when I was standing in front of Dec looking at those twinkly green eyes and dimples and I felt this wave of relief! It’s the same feeling you get when you come home after a really long holiday and the same feeling I get whenever I come back to Dec.”
Thankfully Hannah of Keeper Creative was there to capture all the special moments of the DIY-filled day. “We are both fairly terrible at photos. Han has been our friend since primary school and it has been wonderful to have her there for our engagement and wedding. Nothing ever feels staged with Han- which is great because we are terrible just plain awful at posing! I look at Han’s photos and remember a moment and how I was feeling in that moment.”
