Sarah and Dave were high school sweethearts, that after thinking the proposal was a funny joke to get a room upgrade, went on to plan their wedding over a year – interesting to say the least, when “Dave wanted an Italian getaway destination wedding and I wanted a small backyard bbq with 30 people,” reveals the bride, who wore Luci Di Bella. “In the end, we compromised for a 250+ guest wedding in the Victorian countryside.” They ended up making it official at a family member’s private property with Brown Paper Parcel on pics. THE VENUE “We wanted something personal and we wanted something outdoors – my cousin very generously offered us her beautiful country home in Macedon ranges, so it was an easy choice –  a beautiful and personal setting that could hold an unlimited amount of guests.”

THE DRESS “It was actually the first dress I tried on and came back to after trying on a number of other dresses. I wanted something that was light and wearable for the entire day and something that I would be comfortable in! It’s from Luci Di Bella in Armadale. They were amazing and was the only dress that felt like me – comfortable, danceable, elegant and me! I loved it!”

REFERENCES “I did buy one magazine –  and it just so happened to be a Hello May special edition magazine and I used it for inspo. All our vendors actually came from word of mouth, friends that have used them and hair and makeup people that I know and have used before.”

FAVE MEMORY “My dad couldn’t stop crying every time he looked at me – it was pretty cute and he eventually pulled it together – until his speech! The Horas – traditional Jewish dancing – was also a favourite 15 minute moment – our shoes were off, we were up on chairs, flying in the air and having an absolute ball together and with our closest family and friends.”

COOL CUSTOM “We had a traditional Jewish ceremony with a twist. We had a Rabbi from our family synagogue together with our mutual best friend (Daniel Bookman) to marry us under the Chuppah (wedding canopy) – it was a very special and personal ceremony for us.”

LITTLE LOL “Everything – but mostly everyone laughed that Dave was always the bride and I was the anti-bride (the most chilled, but unchilled bride) b/c I didn’t want to care about any of the little details all get caught up in the silly decision, but I couldn’t help but have an opinion on everything, and I knew exactly what I wanted and didn’t want.”

WE’RE GLAD WE… “I’m really glad we did the whole wedding thing in general – I’m not your typical bride, but I have to admit that we had the most special day and a lot of fun! I’m also glad that I organised the Magnet-Me man the day before the wedding – he was a real hit and a lot of fun – I think people loved taking their magnet photos home, our fridge is now covered with them too.”

STANDOUT VENDORS “Jess Tremp of Brown Paper Parcel was my chilled wedding vibe – she never made an over the top fuss over me or the wedding and totally understood how overwhelming it can all be. Jess, together with the videographer (Matt Cook of Where The Heart Is) totally got into the party, danced with us and completely captured the day perfectly. Our caterer (Blakes Feast) and wedding planner (Weddings of Distinction) were so helpful during the entire process as well and went above and beyond. Our music crew, especially Joys Soul Music – just got us and our vibe- and Maimon Design was an absolute pleasure to hang out with.”
