Meet newlyweds Rosa and Rigel. They were on each other’s radar back in high school, but it wasn’t until they found each other four years later, in a music fest moshpit, that sparks really flew. “Something clicked, so we ditched our friends and hung out just the two of us for the rest of the night. From then on, it was on.”

The pair kicked off married life with a roaring inner-city Melbourne celebration – we’re talking party with a capital P. Hello May friends Pomp & Splendour were responsible for the beautiful blooms, and the couple “struck gold” when they put the legend from It’s Beautiful Here on camera duties. Scroll on for all the highlights and hilarious mems!

THE VENUE “We only visited a few other venues before Free to Feed, and we were both instantly sure it was the right place for us. The venue is a renovated art deco building with beautiful floors, exposed brick walls and a fireplace at the centre of the dining space. We wanted somewhere special but not too formal, and Free to Feed felt just right.”

THE VIBE “Neither of us had been to many weddings before, which was kind of a good thing. We didn’t feel any pressure to follow a formula, and we didn’t have particular expectations. The vibe we wanted was a little bit fancy without being stuffy. We envisioned a post-ceremony cocktail party turning into a big, welcoming dance floor later in the night.”

FAVE DETAILS “Our friend Georgina Morris agreeing to be our celebrant was one of the most special things.  It was the first wedding she officiated. We wanted someone who really knew us to marry us, and her insight made the ceremony so much more genuine and heartfelt. Rigel spent hours making playlists for different stages of the day, and we tried to include something for everyone. Also, our friends surprised us with a flash mob! They choreographed a dance to an ABBA track and spent months practising. It was so silly/impressive/joyous.”

A WORD OF ADVICE “Think about how you want the day to feel, not just how you want it to look.”

REFERENCES “We found everything through social media, word of mouth, a lot of Googling, and Hello May definitely came in handy.”

LITTLE LOL “The dance floor was so good. But, later in the night, someone accidentally hit repeat while trying to queue the next song. It was Let’s Get Loud by Jennifer Lopez (iconic). I don’t know how many times it played before our friend Gracie came to find us and beg for help – everyone on the dancefloor was exhausted after trying to keep up with JLo! We still laugh thinking about it, and that track will always make us remember that sweaty, happy dancefloor.”

STANDOUT VENDORS “We struck gold when we found Kat and Scout from It’s Beautiful Here to photograph the day! They’re like wedding guardian angels.”
