Paris is known for many things, be it macarons, the Eiffel Tower or all things romantic but before Priscilla and John were able to experience the ‘City of Love’ properly, they had to tackle one small hurdle.
“When we first arrived in Paris, our backpack got snatched on the train but luckily John was able to grab it back. It had our passports, money, credit cards and the engagement ring (which I didn’t know about). On our third night in Paris, we went to see the Eiffel Tower, and just as we were about to call it a night and go home, the tower started to do its light show. I was so in awe, and screaming like a school girl, I didn’t realise that John was down on one knee waiting to propose.”
With a three year long engagement ahead of them, the pair had plenty of time to plan their big day – a relaxed, semi-rustic yet sophisticated celebration at Sergeants Mess in Sydney. “The view was so pretty and we always wanted to do something by the water. It could accommodate the amount of guests, the wedding package was good, we could BYO alcohol and we could decorate the venue as we pleased,” explains Priscilla, who put together an a-team of vendors to pull off the perfect day.
From Melissa Cauchi Hairdressing to Makeup by Megan, to Jessie Cacchillo, She Designs, James Frost Photography and La Lune Cinema, this couple truly enlisted the cream of the crop. “James Frost and La Lune Cinema were also great to work with. Half the time we didn’t even know they were there. There were a lot of chit chat in between any spare time we had, and we also shared a few drinks with the boys at the end of the night,” the bride tells us, adding that her two gowns were by legend Paolo Sebastian.
“I didn’t do any research or try on any dresses. I just called Paolo and said I wanted him to make me a dress. So I flew over to Adelaide, told him want I wanted, and he made it happen. Paolo made the experience so easy, and he is such a lovely guy.”
With their special day now behind them, Priscilla and John reflect on their favourite moments (the speeches, John not crying but “freedom leaving his body”, etc.), and tell us the tried and true meaning of marriage: “It means having your best friend by your side to get into mischief with for the rest of your life, and having a hand to hold in yours forever though the good and the bad.”
