Ben & Nicky’s Yarra Ranges Wedding

Against the lush rolling hills of the Yarra Ranges, Ben and Nicky became hubs and wife. The couple, who had been together for over five years, marked the milestone with a positively enchanting day that honoured their love story, Jewish tradition, and family.

They opted to host their beautiful outdoor ceremony and marquee celebration (featuring quite possibly the biggest disco ball we’ve ever seen) on the Groom’s parents’ stunning Victoria property. And in addition to the help of close kin, the pair had an excellent lineup of wedding pros in their corner, including planner/stylist Judith of Toko Events and photographer Georgia Verrells (“both true superwomen”, to quote the couple).

THE VENUE “Having such a beautiful family property, it is hard to say no to! It was very awesome getting married in such a personal and special place. Also, not to forget, Ben’s dad was the real MVP of organising the property and logistics of the day for us. We are very lucky to have family who are so generous with their time and love!”

FAVE DETAILS “The flowers were drop-dead gorgeous. Nat from Wildflos suggested we could relocate and repurpose the flowers from the chuppah (ceremony) to the function once the ceremony was complete, which was a great idea and saved us some money. We totally loved the disco ball and the ambience it brought to the dancefloor.”

DIY “Ben’s mum is a print maker and she made us a print using leaves from the property for our save the date and on our wedding website.”

MEMORABLE MOMENT “We decided to do a bit of a surprise first dance. We didn’t tell anyone, and we asked the band to play the song (‘Can’t take my eyes off you’) mid-set. They very naturally got the dance floor to clear, and we did a little choreographed dance under the disco ball surrounded by our family and friends. It felt very natural and like a moment for just the two of us.”

TALK ABOUT TRADITION “Culture and tradition played an important role in our day. We had a traditional Jewish wedding, which meant that Ben and I were married by a Rabbi under a Chuppah. One other element of the tradition is to separate for the week before the wedding and then reunite in an intimate gathering before the ceremony, called a Bedeken. Here is where we saw each other for the first time, surrounded by our closest family and friends, and it was a very emotional and special time.”

LITTLE LOL “Not everything went perfectly (as it never does)! Nicky’s brother ended up having a stomach bug on the day, but he still powered through and mc’d the function and somehow made it to the dancefloor between toilet runs!”

STANDOUT VENDORS “Everyone was amazing, Judith (Toko Events) really helped us organise every aspect of the wedding, and she even flew out [to the wedding] early to avoid the QLD cyclone! Georgia was amazing to work with, she had just had a baby and had organised a backup photographer for the day in case, but somehow, she was able to attend and was so present and positive! Both true superwomen! John Kurt’s film is so stunning and captures the day so perfectly. Also, the Wild Flos team did an amazing job, all while in 30 degrees and on one of the busiest wedding weekends of the season.”
