Considering Michelle and Luke admittedly had no idea how to go about organising a wedding, we’re pretty impressed with what they came up with. “We’re both terrible planners, who had no clue”, says Michelle, pleased that the day ended up beginning with tea, chocolate cake and scones. “The planning process was a chaotic journey filled with a lot of snap decisions that we’re thankful worked out in the end.”
Wanting to create “the best party ever” Michelle and Luke’s approach was to involve their friends as much as possible… “because they know what you like and they understand what you’re trying to say when you ramble random wedding jibberish at them. They’re also great at telling you when you’ve lost the plot”, says Michelle who in the end, thought her wedding day held at The Winery in Surry Hills, Sydney suited her and Luke to a tee.
Describing it as “a disorganised chaos that came together at the last moment to be an amazing experience”, Michelle and Luke were especially grateful for the people who made their day possible, including photographer Lara Hotz (also featured in Issue six), stationery designer Georgia Hill and floral stylist Sami from Sami Sweeting.
“Lara Hotz was amazing and we were really happy with the whole process of working with her”, says Michelle who enjoyed spending time in random locations around the city. “It was nice to be spontaneous and go where inspiration struck on the day.” Arriving at their reception in a beautifully restored Kombi from Kombi Style, Michelle and Luke enjoyed hours of eating and drinking with friends and family inside the Gracelands Room until it was time to go home for their first dance.
“We didn’t have a first dance at the reception because Luke hates being the centre of attention. Instead we waited till the end of the night till it was just us in our living room with I’m On Fire by Bruce Springfield.”
