Whilst also preparing to become a mum, Megan (one of our gorgeous brides from our Real Wedding Special) organised everything her and Mark needed for their wedding that was being held at her parent’s place in Sydney. Food, alcohol and flowers (to name only a few) all needed to be arranged and, in the final hours before their ceremony, a few wet weather options too – a job she happily handed over to Mark.
£The weather was not what we had planned for so we had to book a marquee last minute which was incredibly stressful (I was a little picky). I was so set on having the ceremony under the willow tree so we postponed the ceremony for an hour, the guests were given refreshments whilst poor Mark was running around like a crazy man trying to organise the white umbrellas so it would all be perfect for me.
And it was perfect. Married as planned underneath the willow tree, inside a peace sign made of bricks, Megan says that although their dog Sahara didn’t end up being one of the flower girls, their ceremony was a moment she’ll never forget – and thankfully Heart and Colour got photos of all of it. £I had played with the idea of Sahara being one of the flower girls but let it go because there was no way she would walk down graciously on a leash.
At their reception, held underneath their romantically lit (waterproof) marquee, signs of their eclectic, Morocco-meets-India inspired theme were everywhere, from their bridal party (the girls wore whimsical white dresses and the boys wore dark denim shirts) to their bright bouquets and exotic table decorations.
Without a doubt it was Megan who made the biggest impact in her bohemian Lost Lover belt and Grace Loves Lace gown, the later of which she admits she’d found before she was even engaged. £I knew from the beginning that we would get married so what was the harm in looking, right! Once engaged I flew up to Queensland to the Grace Loves Lace studio to try on the Josee dress. However, I was four months pregnant and emotional. I broke down in tears in front of the Grace Loves Lace girls because I felt fat and horrible (as any pregnant lady would know) but bought the dress anyway. Much to my delight I felt absolutely beautiful in it on the day!
Even the bunting and wooden swing made by Megan’s parents looked better than expected which is why Megan’s advice to other couples now is, £Surrender to what may be, it’s going to be magical no matter what; it’s about marrying your best friend and soul mate at the end of the day.
Unfortunately our Real Wedding Special is completely sold out! But the good news is issue ten hits newsstands across Australia tomorrow! Find your nearest stockist here or grab a copy online via Mag Nation.
