Ooooh boy. Lucy, Stewart, can we be besties!?? Like a big ol’ hug in wedding form, this twosome’s North Fitzroy wedding hullabaloo was bursting at the seams with euphoric vibes and good times.
The dancefloor was “the place to be” thanks to eight awesome mates who enthusiastically embodied their DJ alter-egos to take turns at the decks. But if folks needed a breather from boogieing, they could duck off to leave an audio message on the guestbook, courtesy of Off The Hook.
A moment of appreciation, please, for the wedding party. What a beaut bunch (and always a bloody delight to see our mates M.J. Bale in the
groomsman outfit mix). And the pics!!! They’re the work of Jackson Grant, who is “amazing and a real vibe-setter”, according to these newlyweds (and us!).

THE VENUE “We knew we wanted somewhere local and indoors to suit the winter wedding theme (and potential winter weather). Free to Feed was the standout for us and our budget. It had a very welcoming feel – the fireplace was a bonus and would provide ambience and warmth on the night. Free to Feed is also a social enterprise, which I love! They support refugees and asylum seekers by creating employment opportunities through shared food experiences.”
FAVE DETAILS “We asked Patti from Mali Bakes for a dark and moody winter-themed wedding cake. She delivered with our stunning dark green cake that featured Kangaroo Paw flowers. Also, Ash from With Love Bespoke Styling created a gorgeous arbour of native flowers and lit candles at the base. She was amazing and brought our vision to life. [Lastly, the] festival VIP passes made by our MCs, who also starred as part of the DJ quad act [and took on] the persona of ‘festival organisers’. They had headsets and renamed our wedding ‘Stewcy Fest’, announcing the festival DJ line-up during their introduction.”
THE DRESS “I found my dress before we were engaged (and kept it hidden from Stewart in case he thought I was a bit psycho haha). But to clarify, I didn’t purposely go shopping for a wedding dress. I was at David Jones on my lunch break and saw this cream, long-sleeved dress and knew it was ‘the one’. So I bought it. I also knew my Stewart was ‘the one,’ so I figured I’d get to wear it one day.”
TALK ABOUT TRADITION “Stew’s uncle and aunties who live in Scotland sadly could not be at our wedding due to ill health. We wanted to incorporate them into the ceremony and asked Uncle Fraser if he would do a Scottish reading. We chose a Scottish poem, ‘A waddin (wedding) toast’ by Sheena Blackhall. Fraser dressed in his Scottish kilt and filmed the poem in the garden of Stew’s grandparents’ place. He said some lovely words to accompany the poem. His thick Scottish accent meant that most of what he said was ineligible haha, but it was a very touching part of the ceremony.”
STANDOUT VENDORS “Obviously, Jackson, our photographer, gets a shout-out. He was amazing and a real vibe-setter. I was very anxious, almost non-verbal, the morning of. But when Jackson announced himself at the door, I was immediately put at ease. He got everyone in the mood to party and have a good time. Once at the wedding, he worked the room and got everyone talking with his charismatic and engaging personality. He was the talk of the town the following day, with everyone sharing their ‘Jackson’ moments.
