“After 24 years of living together, having a family together, it was a weird decision for us to get married”, says Lee. “I had breast cancer five years ago and since then we both felt differently about sharing our life with each other. It brought into sharp focus how important love is.”
Once they’d made up their mind to take the plunge (over a bottle of red wine) there was no holding back. “We discovered the Hello May blog and went to the One Fine Day expo. Enough said…” says Lee who locked in some of our favourite wedding vendors including Tillee Music, Makeup by Megan, She Designs and The Sisters who together created an atmosphere that was warm and relaxed.
“We wanted a playful, rustic, relaxed celebration that had delicious food and magical music. We called it our weekend wedding in the wild.” Held at Kangaroo Valley Bush Retreat in New South Wales which boasts 100 acres of beautiful bushland (and which you may recognise from this real wedding) Lee and Nathan had enough room to create a day that was all their own.
Photographed by All Grown Up Weddings and filmed by Design Patrol everything from their heartfelt ceremony to their magical reception referenced what Lee and Nathan care for most – their friends and family, good food and of course, each other.
“Each moment was special. We decided to get ready together. It was lovely to be with each other and with our girls for the whole day. Tillie Music sang Real Love by John Lennon when we entered the ceremony. It was beautiful. The whole day was magic.”
