Wedding days are typically filled to the brim with special memories, but for Krista there was one moment in particular that really took the cake. “Seeing one another for the first time was definitely the highlight. I am a shocker when it comes to surprises (I’m the kid who would open Christmas presents early) so it was a struggle to keep my dress a secret. To see Joel’s reaction was priceless!”
Could you really blame him? Krista was a surefire stunner in her Brides By Design gown, a shoo-in despite an initial struggle to land the perfect gown. “I kept seeing the shape and style I wanted online and in magazines but no stores locally had anything similar. Everyone kept putting me in ballgowns! I had a friend recommend Brides By Design and after the first consultation I knew it was a done deal and that I was in exceptional hands with the team. I was over the moon with the end result,” says Krista, adding that the pair had a cruisy time planning their day captured by Nectarine Photography and held at Distribution Lane in Perth.
“Our venue spoke for itself with so much detail and character, we didn’t feel the need to go over the top in decor, other than florals and candles. After living in Melbourne, we were obsessed with a mix of urban and industrial vibes. We are a really chilled couple so we didn’t want anything too formal or restricted. We wanted it to be one big party where everyone could mingle, dance and celebrate,” Krista and Joel explain, assuring us that their ‘dream team’ of vendors and sticking to their vision was the secret behind the celebration’s success.
“It may not be the ‘norm’ but what we did was a 100 percent representation of us as individuals and as a couple,” says the bride, whose cheeky perspective of marriage can be summed up as “having a ride or die sidekick for life”.
A day filled with flowers, food, styling by the talented The Butcher The Baker The Stylist & Creator and so much fun (including Joel’s Nana kicking off the dance floor at 7pm with some killer moves), it’s no wonder that a sneaky stranger tried their luck at joining the shindig – a plan quickly foiled, of course. “We had a gatecrasher! Literally a wedding crasher. He got kicked out about as quick as it took for him to walk in.”
