This love story started nine years ago when the couple worked at Apple together. “Blake was a genius and I was a specialist. He left a note in my locker on Valentine’s Day along with a Mars Bar and the rest was history!” Couldn’t love that more. Their marriage mantra is “come for the love, stay for the party,” and their wedding sure did represent that. Miranda Stokkel documented the day, so scroll down for all you need to see and know…
THE VENUE “We had been to dinner at Rupert so many times that we knew it was the venue for us. We had planned for our ceremony and reception, however, we had to cancel as we knew COVID was going to spoil the fun. I saw a photo on Pinterest of Lolita Jacob’s wedding in the South of France where they got married at the registry office and then headed to a private property for their reception. It was effortlessly chic and was exactly the vibe that Blake and I wanted for our day. Relaxed, stylish and a day full of so much love and minimal fuss. We realised that the perfect plan was for us to get married at the Victorian Marriage Registry. This also meant that if we had to reschedule our day it was easy to move. We were able to get married in an intimate ceremony and then head on to Rupert for good food, good wine and to celebrate with great company.”
FAVE DETAILS “Oysters on the terrace – we love oysters and had this crazy idea that we wanted a photo of us sharing an oyster platter together, champagne in hand and not a care in the world. It was the perfect moment! Our Airbnb – we loved having the most stunning Airbnb in the heart of Richmond as a home away from home for our wedding weekend. The flowers – I gave Georgie Boy some inspiration pictures and colours that we loved. They took that and raised it and pulled together the most stunning flowers for our day. The dessert – we arranged to have espresso martinis and cannoli instead of cake.”
THE OUTFIT “My pants and top were designed by myself and brought to life by my mum. I tried on many dresses from several fabulous Melbourne designers but none felt right. We got the material from Franke Stuart in Hawthorn, VIC and from there she took my sketch and produced the most fabulous outfit over the next six months. It was my perfect vibe. It was my something new but also something old as she included a piece from her very own wedding dress that was stitched into the waist of my pants. To make it even more special, Blake’s mum embroidered our names onto it in blue, so it was also my something blue!”
REFERENCES “Miranda Stokkel was suggested to us by several friends and we instantly fell in love with her and her style! She even recommended her friend Nathan Kaso to join her and shoot the wedding together as we mentioned we love film photography! Georgie Boy was the florist for one of my best friend’s weddings and her work is incredible, so we know we had to have her for our day. Hello May was my go-to wedding inspiration source and we regularly jumped on the blog to get inspo and recommendations for the big day.
MARRIAGE MEANS… “On our invite and menus, we put a note – come for the love, stay for the party. This is representative of our days and adventures that we have together. There is a lot of love, but even more fun.”
A WORD OF ADVICE “If it’s in your nature, challenge the traditional proceedings of weddings. For example, we spent the whole day together, got ready together, had a reveal in front of our friends and family beforehand. We didn’t have bridesmaids or groomsmen but had close friends play a part in the day in other ways. We did what we thought was right for us, not what was expected of us.”
STANDOUT VENDORS “Miranda Stokkel, Nathan and Lars Osland – our photographers and videographers. They have put our day in a form that we will relive over and over again. Not only that, they contributed on the day to some incredible memories that we will remember forever.”
